EXPLORING EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES

Use this worksheet to assist you in compiling a list of suitable Educational Resources that will assist you in forming a
Postsecondary Pathway Plan:

• Based on what you know about yourself at this moment in time and the opportunities available to you, what
occupations or careers are of interest to you? If you have a Career Cluster already created, refer to it – what
occupations or careers have been suggested as being the most suitable given your skills set and interests?

The one career that I’m really trying to focus on is something following under the medical field. Perhaps nursing is one of
them or a dermatologist. In all, I would really appreciate it if I were to ever be able to aid someone when they need help. It
just satisfies me and makes me feel like a better person, and in the long run, we’ve got other people smiling along. Now if
I’m ever going to follow in these steps that I’ve put down, the few things that’ll be very necessary for me to succeed,
would be for myself to be able to communicate and collaborate with whoever I’m working r dealing with, also time
management is a big one as well as critical thinking. Along with that, you need to have the knowledge of how things
work, what are the procedures, and also the safety for the patient and for the one working with a patient. Currently, I’m
working and volunteering at my dad’s company/business, as well as at the library, and even at some schools. Also, during
school I’ve volunteered to take some time in the programs our school holds for us.
• Does this occupation or career require specific education requirements or involve any specialized training? If so,
research the requirements.

The requirements for when you want to achieve a field in dermatology, you’d have to acquire a high school diploma or
equivalent, and you’d also need to complete a bachelor’s degree. Of course, you’ll have to graduate from a medical school
and complete an internship as well. There is also a state licensing exam you’ll have to pass and a residency program in
dermatology you will have to complete. And to become board certified, you will also have to be able to pas additional
exams.

• Where can you get the education or training for this occupation or career? Investigate!

You can receive the education to become a dermatologist from the:

University of Alberta (Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry)

Canadian Dermatology Association
University of Toronto (Medicine: Dermatology)
The University of British Columbia (Department of Dermatology & Skin Care)
Canadian Society of Skin Medicine
