Weekly Journal

Regular evaluation updates are required with every unit. Please remember to
take photos and get behind the scenes footage as you film. You might find it
easier if you note down a record of what you did each day in a diary form.

Please use the following guidance to help you with each week.

Week 1 This week you researched stop motion animation

What research have you I have researched what stop animation is. I also found out
completed this week and what that J. Stuart Blackton was the creator of it. i also learnt about
have you learned? the frame rate and how it makes the animation faster or
smoother and running at 24 frames per second.
What materials did you consider I used plasticine for the models and cardboard for the set. I
using and why? used it because the main character was meant to be morph
from a child’s programme that everyone watched from when
they were young which should help them understand more
than just this random paper model.
How did the test animations help They helped me get the feel for stop motion animation and
you to choose the most suitable know what I'm doing so I'm not clueless for the real thing.
material for your animation? They also helped just get the movement of take a picture then
move. It also helped me want to do something that was easily
(provide screenshots that show
moveable.
your practice methods)
What did you learn from your I learnt how long it is going to be taking a lot of
planning? How has it helped you photos. It needs to be 30 seconds which means taking
to progress your idea? 720 photos if I want to shoot at 24 fps.
Are you on track for this week? If I should be on track for this week I just need to order some
not, how far behind are you? plasticine.
What work do you need to I will need to find the right colour plasticine on
complete outside of lessons to amazon for my morph model.
stay on track?

Week 2 This week you produced your stop motion animation

How helpful did you find your I found it helpful because I had to set up a back drop and
planning whilst photographing practise the motion of taking a picture then moving. It also
your animation? helped be understand how to set up my camera for stop
motion animation and making it smooth
What challenges did you face I kept finding plasticine very annoying as it is quite
with your chosen material? How heavy so it falls over very easily so when I would move
did you overcome these? it, it would fall over and then I have to start over again
so it isn’t jumpy.
How did you ensure you met the I didn’t because when filming I kept having issue’s
required frame rate? because sometimes when I would go to move the
model it would fall over so I would have to start again
and eventually it got to 11 at night and I stopped
moving it in little movements as that wasn’t working
out and moved it in bigger movements and then told
the story too quickly.
How happy are you with your final I am happy that somewhat of a story was told in the
product? Provide analysis of the 10 seconds that was filmed. If I made it 30 seconds I
successes and failures you feel could’ve produced something really good because I
you had was not very good at making plastercine model’s so
every time I would go to move it, it would fall over.
I did not practice enough so therefor chose the wrong
material and should’ve made a whole new storyline
because I am a bad model maker. I should’ve
watched some 30 second stop motion animation’s to
get ideas for a new storyline.

How much work did you Pretty much all of it as everything is a lot easier to do
complete outside of the lessons? at home. I also had my camera, tripod, models and
back drops at home so it’s a lot easier than bringing it
all in.
Are you on track for this week? If I just need to do the practise animations bur apart
not, how far behind are you? from that I am all up to date.
