Answer any TWO of the following

Q.No Question Bloom’s level

i) Explain the concept of variation of viscosity with temperature briefly?
ii) A plate 0.025mm distant from a fixed plate, moves at a 60 cm/s speed and
1 L2/L4
requires a force of 2N/m2 to maintain this speed. Determine the fluid viscosity
between the plates.
i) Calculate the capillary rise in a glass tube of 2.5mm dia. When immersed vertically
in a) water b) mercury. Take surface tension = 0.0725 N/m for water and 0.52 N/m
for mercury in contact with air. The specific gravity of mercury is 13.6 and angle of
2 contact = 130° L4/L3
ii) the capillary rise in the glass tube is not to exceed 0.2mm of water, determine
minimum size, given that surface tension of water in contact with air = 0.0725 N/m

i) Define vapour pressure and cavitation, compressibility and bulk modulus.

ii) Determine the bulk modulus of elasticity of a liquid, if the pressure of liquid is
3 increased from 70N/cm2 to 130 N/cm2. The volume of the liquid decreases by L3/L4
0.15% .

i)Define velocity potential function and stream function?

ii)the velocity potential function(Ø) is given by expression
Ø = - xy3- x2 + x3y + y2
4 3 3 L4/L5
a) find the velocity components in x and y directions
b) Show that Ø represents a possible case of flow.
