The Problem and its background

Introduction

Social networks are one of the most used communication methods of today's world.

Their use in different fields has been examined in several research studies. This study

aims to examine the effects of social media on student's academic performance.

Whether there is a positive relationship between confidence, social media participation

and social media related behaviors will also be assed with regard to using Social media.

In order to collect the primary data, a general scanning model was used to observe

attitudes of high school students.

The findings highlight that Social media is can be used for communication entertainment

and sharing news, pictures and songs. In addition, their Social media account profile

picture is alone and students were aware that swearing is considered a form of

misconduct, which is a good sign.

The study also indicates that students were aware of protecting their social identity as

their Social media shares are not public. Furthermore, they respect privacy as they do

not use their friend's Social media accounts.


Background of the Study

Social media usage by students is so rampant recently because of easy access to devic

es such as smart phones, iphones, black berry, tablets, ipad and laptops which are con

nected to the internet. Addiction to the usage of social media has extremely increased in

recent times.

The perils of its effects on the academic performance of the overinvolved students are d

isturbing. Academic performance which is depicted by the grades of students is a great

concern student that spends excessive time on social networks become dependent on it

and it is believed that their academic performance diminishes proportionately.

It is perceived that school grades will suffer when spending too much time on social site

s such as Facebook, twitter and 2go as valuable study time is lost.(Kubey,

2017). These therefore necessitate the study of the impact of social.

Scope and Limitation of the study

This study will focus on determining the The Effects of Using Social Media on Grade 11

ICT Students’ Academic Performance at AMA Computer Learning Center Antipolo

Academic Year 2018-2019.


This study will be limited only among the 151 Grade 11 ICT students of AMA Computer

Learning Center as respondents of the study,

This study will also be bound to unveil the assessment of grade 11 student’s academic

performance in track of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

Statement of the Problem

1. How Social Media affect student’s academic performance?

2. What benefits by Social Media can be applied in every students?

3. Is there a relationship between extent of usage of social and education?

4. What skills can be develop by being Social Media-related student?

5. How’s the positive relationship between Social Media can be eliminate its

negativity?

Hypothesis of the study

There will be the a explanation when the study has already conducted.

Theoretical/Conceptual Framework

Academic Year 2018-2019 provides the theoretical/conceptual framework of the study:

Social media has changed lots of former procedures in this modern era like

expanding the capacity to the area of teaching and learning. This research work seeks

to identify the ideas on how advantageous social media is to them, their awareness on

social media, effects of social media on studies of the students and their usage

patterns. The research findings and recommendations could be adopted and

implemented to benefit the area of teaching and learning.

Over the years many studies have been conducted and social media has depicted both

positive as well as negative effect on the academic performance of the students. There

are certain factors that influence the relationship between social media and academic

performance such as how long students use social media sites? What time of the day

do they use these sites the most? A handful of studies have discussed the relationship

between these variables.

Significance of the study

This study will be undertaken with the major purpose of determining the The Effects of

Using Social Media on Grade 11 ICT Students’ Academic Performance at AMA

Computer Learning Center Antipolo Academic Year 2018-2019.

Through this study,both teachers and students will know the effects of using Social
Media of grade 11 students in track of Information and Communication Technology
(ICT) and how social media usage can help every students.

This study will be beneficial to the following:


The School Administrators. Being a vital part of the institution, the study will give

them information about the effects of Social Media on academic performance. This will

help them formulate necessary programs and projects that will address the performance

of the students in classrooms and campus. Moreover, the result of this study will give

them a concrete basis to prove that the Social Media can really help or cannot help

improve the Student’s Academic performance.

The Parents and Students. As essential members of the school stakeholders, this

study will provide them knowledge and information about the effects of Social media on

academic performances. This will make them know the importance of Knowing if social

media can really help improving their academic performance. Furthermore, this will

make them appreciate the how the exposure to social media of a student affects his/her

schooling.

The Future Researchers. The result of this study will guide them on the effects of

Social media in academic performance on students of AMA Computer Learning Center

and Importance of Social Media usage in every students.

Academic Performance- The performance of the students at their school and the one

that the researchers wants to know if this is really affected by the usage of social media.

Advantageous- How social media usage can be serve as advantage in student’s

academic performance.
Awareness- Limitations or regulations in social media in terms of education.

Education- How social media can be a good instrument on it.

social media.

Ideas- Concepts that can be implied to improve relationship between social media and

education.

Influence- What are the possible influence that the social media can give to the

students as they use it.

Negativity- Negative effects of using social media as a student.

Performance- Outcome of using Social Media in terms of education.

Positivity- Positive effects of using social media as a student.

Procedures- instructions in how to use social media in good terms.

Programs- What are the programs that can help students to be aware of the effects of

social media to their academic performance.

Recommendations- Programs or activities that may help students using social media.

Relationship- The relationship between the academic performance of a student and

the social media usage of the student.


Social Media- Mostly used to catch information, news, and entertainment and the

researchers subject if it really affects students.

Usage- The one which the researchers wants to measure if the more usage of social

media can affect or less usage of the social media can affect academic performance of

the students.
