IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON COURSE REGISTRATION, PRESCRIBED & GENERAL

ELECTIVES – FOR BA/BSC (ED) STUDENT TEACHERS

AY2019-2020 Semester 2 – Jan 2020 semester


(Information on course registration has been made available via the NIE Portal. The following
details serve as a reminder for all degree student teachers)

2) Relevant Information

a. Please refer to the BA/BSc (Ed) & B Ed master timetable available via the NIE
Portal starting from 16 December 2019 onwards or earlier.

Timetables – Jan semester

The timetable is subject to changes; hence, please refer to the master timetable
regularly for the latest updates.

b. Enrol for all core courses, prescribed or general electives and practicum (if
applicable), based on your programme structure or your individual academic plan.
The programme structures are available via the NIE Portal.

Structures

As NIE courses take priority, if the NTU General Elective(s) you opt for clash with
your NIE course(s), you must drop the NTU General Elective(s) or select other
NTU General Elective(s) that do not clash with your NIE course(s).

If the NIE General Elective(s) you opt for clash with NIE compulsory course(s),
you should drop the NIE General Elective(s) or select other NIE General
Elective(s) that do not clash with your NIE compulsory course(s).

c. The personalized student timetable will be made available by 10 January 2020


onwards (we will keep you posted if there are any updates). When viewing your
personalized student timetable, do check whether there are courses indicated
under the heading “Enrolled but not Allocated”.

d. Courses may be indicated under the heading “Enrolled but not Allocated” due to
clashes between courses. If the clash involves any of the electives, you need to
drop the elective course(s) and consider adding an alternative course during the
add/drop period. If the clash is not due to an elective, please send an email to
Programme Administration & Management Unit at babsc@nie.edu.sg.

3) General Electives (GEs) for NIE Student Teachers

Please note that certain courses require you to pass an audition. The audition will be
conducted on the first lesson. Refer to BA/BSc (Ed) master timetable for the
timeslots.
Some of the AAAXXX courses are subjected to $60 studio fee payable at the NIE
Student Services Centre.

4) Start of School Term in Semester 2 (Jan 2020 semester)

Semester 2 of AY2019-2020 will commence from 13 January 2020. More information


is available in the Academic Calendar.

5) Difficulties Faced during Online Course Registration or Add/Drop Period

a. Technical Difficulties (e.g. if you need to reset your login password, or is not
able to access the NIE Portal page): Please direct enquiries to NIE Service Desk:
servicedesk@nie.edu.sg or call 6790-3033.

b. Academic/Administrative Difficulties

If you encounter administrative difficulties such as not being able to enrol your
courses due to clash in the exam timetable/ course is full or unavailable, please
direct your queries to Mdm Chua Ka Ai (OAAS Exams Unit) at 6790-3018 or
kaai.chua@nie.edu.sg.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

a. Please note that you will not be allocated a group/class for course(s) that you
did not register for.

b. You will be allocated accordingly to the courses you have successfully


enrolled. We will not consider any request for a transfer between
lecture/tutorial groups.

c. Course(s) that you have not been allocated to a group/class (e.g. due to clash
between courses) will not be reflected in your Blackboard.

d. There is strictly NO adding or dropping once the add/drop period is over. We


view Online Course Registration as a very serious sign of responsibility as a
student teacher.

e. Student teachers are expected to attend lessons throughout the semester and
student teachers who are unable to attend lessons for any good reason must
apply for leave of absence. Student teachers who absent themselves without
approval or medical certificate issued by medical practitioners in Singapore
may be subject to disciplinary action being taken against them. This may lead
to termination of service or scholarship/award for errant offenders.
