< INDeons Shi Aiceayh State Road Sector Project (ADB Funded) www.infycons.comAbout Chhattisgarh State Road Sector Project The project envisioned improving more than 900 kms of state road by constructing new roads and upgrading existing roads to two lanes in the state of Chhattisgarh, India. Executing agency from the state is Chhattisgarh Public Works Department and the project is financially supported by Asian Development Bank under India country partnership strategy. Project Implementation Unit subdivided the entire project into three groups and each group assigned to a supervision consultant. Of the 19 packages covering 916 km roads, each consultant had 4 to 9 roads / civil works contracts to be supervised. SMEC International Pty Lid., Egis International S.A. and ICT Pvt. Ltd. were engaged as the consultants. Design Standards and Considerations Design criteria adopted are based on applicable IRC / MoRTH codes and standards. For 2-lane road, total carriageway width is 7m and overall road width is 10 to 12 m. Wherever roads exist, they are widened as per design. In some areas, widened road has to be accommodated within the existing right-of-way because of land acquisition issues. Apart from flood prone areas, bituminous pavement is provided otherwise concrete pavement is adopted.Typical Cross Sections (Few Cases) High EmbankmentAbout Road Estimator Road Estimator is useful for detailed cross section generation and quantity calculation of any types of road. It is an extremely easy to use software and can be easily adopted for new roads or for widening & strengthening of roads. Large data can be processed fast and area/volume reports can be obtained accurately. Quantity Calculation Challenges and Solutions In case of widening and strengthening of an existing road, getting precise area and volume computation of profile corrective course (PCC) is a major exercise. This is mainly because conditions vary, and the PCC layers should be automatically calculated based on the depth from the existing pavement. In Road Estimator this issue is addressed properly with provision of various methods for PCC quantity calculation e.g. automatic trimming of proposed pavement layers from existing road edges with reference to top levels or offsets. User can also define PCC as per requirement if required. It supports different types of element like lined & unlined drains, kerbs, retaining walls, crash barriers, symbols etc. For retaining wall, height is automatically detected as per the depth. Places where high filling is required, embankment layers can be defined of specified depth and slope. Detailed report of the same can be generated. Project Level Implementation Road Estimator was approved by the Project Director, ADB Project, Chhattisgarh for calculation of quantities. All the stakeholders including contractors, consultants and government agency were benefited because complete process of quantity calculation at working and at as-built level was streamlined with a standardized approach. Road Estimator software was recommended by our ‘Software Approval Committee’ for the CG State Road Sector Project after thorough evaluation and verifying their credentials. This approach has proven effective because all the associated parties have followed similar workflow that resulted in reducing the time loss.
