Parachute Project
Objective
At the end of the activity, the participants should be able to design and construct a parachute.

Materials
Human clay model 2 ft string 2 ft scotch tape
1 spread newspaper 1 plastic bag Scissors
Stop watch

Procedures
1. Design and construct a parachute using the materials provided to your group. You are not allowed to use any
other materials or extra materials.
2. Mold a human model out of clay. Ask your facilitator for the appropriate mass of the human clay model.
3. Draw the design of your parachute below.

4. Test your parachute by dropping it with the human clay model from a particular height. Revisions in you
parachute could be done until the third trial only. Measure the time it takes to reach the ground. Record your
data in the table below.
