The word “ameggaz” is a
neology but it is now widely
used among people in the Rif,
Souss, and elsewhere, in this
context.
I am not sure about its exact
meaning but it is used in the
sense of “happy” or “blessed”.
Maybe looking up the roots
“mgz” or “gz” could clarify its
meaning.
The word “amimun” is more
traditional. It is of Arabic
origin (‫ )ميمون‬meaning: blessed
The word “amaynu” meaning:
new, is a neology. Its use is
popular only in this and other
similar ceremonial contexts.
Most average Riffian Berber-
speakers still use the traditional
word “jdid” in daily life for the
sense of “new”.
