What is dialogue?

A dialogue is literary technique in which writers employ two or more


characters to be engaged in conversation with one another. In literature, it is
conversation passage or a spoken or a written exchange of conversation in group
or between two persons directed towards a particular subject.

Here a model of dialogue is presented.

A friend is trying to introduce his friend with another friend.


RASHID: Good morning both of you. He is my friend GUL.

GUL: Good morning. Who is he?

RASHID: He is Aslam.

ASLAM: Good Morning GUL.

GUL: Where are you studying Aslam?

ASLAM: I am studying in Punjab University Lahore.

GUL: Do you go to university by bus?

ASLAM: Yes. I go to university by bus. What about you GUL.

GUL: I also go to university by bus.

ASLAM: In which class do you read?

GUL: I am doing M.Phil in English Linguistics.

ASLAM: Wow excellent!

GUL: Thank you.

ASLAM: What is your favorite subject?

GUL: My favorite subject is socio-linguistics.

ASLAM: What is your plan to do after your M.Phil.

GUL: I want to become a lecturer in English.

ASLAM: How your preparation of final term exams.


GUL: My preparation of final term exams is good only discourse analysis is creating some
problems.

ASLAM: Consult your discourse‘s teacher, prepare notes and help to internet.

GUL: You are right.

ASLAM: Whatever, your future plan your knowledge and spoken in English should be good.
As you know English has become an international language and language of science and
technology.

GUL: I know your all advices are very important. I shall pay my full attention on it. What is
your future plan.

ASLAM: I want to go in business or agriculture after completing my study.

GUL: Is it your personal interest.

ASLAM: My father is a business man and I want to help my father in business.

GUL: It’s very nice you should help your father in business and agriculture.

RASHID: should we go to a good restaurant for meal now.

GUL: Yes of course but Aslam has to go with us.

ASLAM: It’s my pleasure.

GUL: I think Canal country club is best venue and we should go there for lunch.

The view of Canal in front of restaurant is outstanding.

RASHID: Ok let’s go now.

ASLAM: Your city is very neat, clean and beautiful. I liked it very much.

RASHID: Yes of course RYK is beautiful and historical city.

ASLAM: Tell me some characteristics of RYK city.

RASHID: RYK is the last district of Punjab and situated on Sindh Punjab border. It is a

fertile district and crops like cotton, sugar cane, rice and vegetables has important part in

Pakistan economy. The mango of RYK is very famous in all over the world.

ASLAM: It’s very interesting. The people of here are friendly natured and hardworking.
RASHID: Yes the people of RYK are friendly and hardworking people. In rural areas of the

district are mostly farmer. They work in their fields most of the time. They are very

hardworking people. But the basic facilities are less in rural areas rather than city. The

people of urban areas mostly are job holders and business man. They do their duty.

GUL: RYK district consist of its four tehsil Sadiqabad, ryk, khan pur and liquatpur. It is

populated district of Punjab.

ASLAM: Very nice. And the venue and menu of the restaurant is also very nice. The food

items are very tasty. I am so impress here.

RASHID: Thank you.

ASLAM: Can we visit of Indus River and some rural areas of RYK.

RASHID: Why not, we will go to Indus River on Sunday.

ASLAM: It’s ok and GUL also to go with us.

GUL: Its ok I shall also go with you on Sunday.

ASLAM: Thank you so much GUL.

RASHID: I think we should go to home now. We have already late enough.

ASLAM: Yes we should go now. Allah hafiz GUL.

GUL: Allah hafiz.

RASHID: Allah hafiz and see you again on next Sunday for visit of Indus river.

GUL: Allah hafiz and take care.

ASLAM: It was very memorable meeting I will remember it thank you. Allah hafiz
