Political Cartoon Assignment

For this assignment you must create a political cartoon illustrating imperialism in Africa or Asia.
Your cartoon must include at least one (1) of the four (4) motives and at least one (1) method
we discussed in class for imperialism. Your cartoon should also illustrate at least one result of
Imperialism. You will be graded on your artistic abilities on this assignment. (10points= 1 motive
10points= 1 method 10points= 1 result)

The goal is to create a cartoon that demonstrates understanding of the motives, methods and
results of Imperialism on Africa and Asia. Please do not create something offensive to other
people or not in accordance with school policy. ASK IF YOU ARE NOT SURE ABOUT YOUR
IDEA!!!

Motives for imperialism include

o Economic
o Political/Military
o Religious/Humanitarian
o Racism

Methods/Advantages for Western Imperialism include

o Strong economies
o Organized governments
o Power Armies/Navies (military)
o Superior Technology (weapons, communications, transportation, medicine)
o Non-Western civilizations were in decline (corruption, lack of money, underdeveloped)
