Motion: Speed
Activity 18 (By group)
Objectives:
In this activity you should be able to measure distance and displacement of objects
in motion in a certain location.
Material:
Activity Sheets
Meter Stick
Stopwatch or cellphones with stopwatch application
Procedure:
1. Go to grade 7 field quietly and find a specific location where you can mark as your
starting point.
2. Using your meter stick, measure a straight 20 meter distance from your starting
point and mark the end of it with a line denoted as the finish line.
3. Allow every member of your group to have a normal walk from the starting point
towards the finish line measuring the time it took them to finish walking from the
starting point to the finish line.
4. Record the result in the given table and use the formula of speed to determine how
fast your members of the group have reached the finish line from the starting point.
Guide Questions:
a. Who is the fastest member of your group to reach the finish line?
b. Who is the slowest member to reach the finish line?
c. Explain how we can use speed in describing motion of an object.
