INTRODUCTION

WHAT IS SURVEY?
Surveying is one of the basic areas in Civil Engineering which includes linear and angular
measurement of the relative positions of the points on the surface of the earth. In surveying, the
measurements are taken in the horizontal and vertical planes.

OBJECTIVE OF SURVEY CAMP


 Working in actual field conditions enhances theoretical and practical knowledge in
engineering survey and increases confidents.
 To become familiar with the surveying problems that are arise in during the field work.
 Familiar with the spirit and important of team work.

LOCATION AND ACCESSIBILITY


The given field location is Boys Town Premises which is a town/suburb of Gampaha district
located in the Western Province. It is governed by the Ja-Ela Pradeshiya Sabha. Geographical
coordinates of the land; Latitude : 70001’51”, Longitude : 79055’00” .

Topography is a broad term used to describe the detailed study of the earth’s surface. This includes
changes in the surface such as mountains and valleys as well as features such as rivers and roads.
It can also include the surface of other planets, the moon, asteroids and meteors.

A topographic survey is a survey that gathers data about the elevation of points on a piece of land
and present them as contour line on a plot. The purpose of a topographic survey is to collect survey
data about the natural and land, as well as its elevations.
