INSTRUCTIONS TO THE CANDIDATES TO APPLY ELIGIBILITY CERTIFICATE
FOR ADMISSION TO /B.S.M.S/B.A.M.S/B.U.M.S/B.N.Y.S/B.H.M.S COURSES

1 Candidates who have passed any qualifying examination other than the Higher Secondary
Course Examinations conducted by the Government of Tamil Nadu shall obtain an Eligibility Certificate
from this University.

2. Candidates has to submit duly filled in Eligibility Certificate Application Form downloaded
from the Website of the Tamil Nadu Dr.M.G.R Medical University (www.tnmgrmu.ac.in) either in
person or by post.

3. Candidate has to remit a sum of Rs.1,200/- towards the cost of Application and Eligibility
Certificate Fee through ONLINE REMITTANCE PAYMENT GATEWAY FOR STUDENT AND
OTHERS (NEFT)(or) IOB Challan to be paid at the The Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University,
Premises. Demand Draft/Banker's Cheque in favour of “THE REGISTRAR” The Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R.
Medical University, Chennai -32.will be accepted for the above amount.

4. The amount once remitted by the candidate to the University will not be refunded at any cost.

5. Candidate has to furnish the following documents in original and one set of Xerox copies.
a) Higher Secondary School certificate Examination Statement of Marks (+2 course or
Equivalent Examination )
b) Transfer certificate
c) Migration Certificate

6. The University will issue the Eligibility Certificate from 1st June of every year.

*If the last date of cut -off date falls on holiday the candidate may to apply eligibility certificate
on the next working day.

8. The candidates who have passed +2 Qualification from the Central Board of Secondary
Examination in the State of Tamil Nadu has to get the Eligibility Certificate.

9. The candidates who have passed Higher Secondary School Examination under vocational
Stream are not eligible to join /B.S.M.S/B.A.M.S/B.U.M.S/B.N.Y.S/B.H.M.S degree
courses.

10 Institutions/Agents/Mediators are not allowed to apply the Eligibility Certificate on behalf of


the candidate.
Eligibility Criteria

a. Candidates belonging to all categories of admission to the Indian Medicine and


Homoeopathy Degree Courses should have passed the Higher Secondary Course
Examination (Academic Stream) after a period of 12 years study with the following
subjects: physics, Chemistry and Biology/ Botany and Zoology.

b. Candidates who have studied abroad and have passed the equivalent qualifications
as determined by the Associations of Indian Universities will form the guidance to
determine the eligibility and must have passed in the subjects: Physics, Chemistry,

Biology (Botany/ Zoology) and English up to 12 Standard level.

c. No candidate shall be allowed to be admitted to the Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy

courses until he/she has completed the age of 17 years on or before the 31 December of the
academic year in which the candidate is seeking admission.

B.S.M.S. Degree course:

As per the Regulation of Central Council of Indian Medicine, New Delhi the Eligibility for
admission to BSMS Degree course:

(a) 12 standard with science or any other equivalent examination recognised by University or
Boards with fifty per cent. aggregate marks in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry,
Biology.
(b) Provided that for foreign students any other equivalent qualification to be approved by the
concerned authorities will be allowed.

(c) Candidates should have passed Tamil as one of the subjects in the 10
Standard or in Higher Secondary course.
(d) Candidates who are not covered under clause (b) above, have to study Tamil
as a subject during the First Professional session.

B.A.M.S. Degree course:

As per the Regulation of Central Council of Indian Medicine, New Delhi the Eligibility for
admission to BAMS Degree course:

12 standard with science or any other equivalent examination
recognised by concerned State Governments and Education boards,
provided the candidate passes the examination with 50% aggregate
marks in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

For foreign students any other equivalent qualification to be approved by


the University will be allowed.
B.U.M.S. Degree course: -3-

As per the Regulation of Central Council of Indian Medicine, New Delhi the Eligibility for
admission to BUMS Degree course:

(A) Admission to Kamil-E-Tib-Wa-Jarahat course: A candidate seeking admission to main Kamil-


E-Tib-Wa-Jarahat (Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery-B.U.M.S) course must have passed,
-
(a) intermediate (10+2) or its equivalent examination with fifty per cent. aggregate marks
in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Biology and the candidate should have passed 10th
standard with Urdu or Arabic of Persian language as a subject, or clear the test of Urdu in the entrance
examination conducted by the University or Board or registered Society authorised by the
Government to conduct such examination :or (b) the Pre-Tib examination of one year duration.

B.H.M.S. Degree course:

As per the Regulation of Central Council of Homoeopathy, New Delhi the Eligibility criteria for
admission to BHMS Degree course:
(i) No candidate shall be admitted to B.H.M.S. Degree course unless he has passed -
(a) the higher secondary examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination which is
equivalent to 10+2 Higher Secondary Examination after a period of twelve years study, the last two
years of study comprising of Physics, Chemistry, Biology with Mathematics or any other elective
subjects with English at a level not less than core course of English as prescribed by the
National Council of Educational Research and Training after the introduction of the 10+2+3
years educational structure as recommended by the National Committee on Education;
or
(b) the intermediate examination in science of an Indian University or Board or other
recognised examining body with Physics, Chemistry and Biology which shall include a practical test
in these subjects and also English as a compulsory subject;
or
(c) the pre - professional or pre - medical examination with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, after
passing either the higher secondary school examination, or the pre - university or an equivalent
Examination, which shall include a practical test in Physics, Chemistry and Biology and also English
as a compulsory subject;
or
(d) the first year of the three years' degree course of a recognised University, with Physics,
Chemistry and Biology including a practical test in these subjects provided the examination is a
University Examination and candidate has passed 10+2 with English at a level not less than a core
course;
or

(e) any other examination which, in scope and standard is found to be equivalent to the
intermediate science examination of an Indian University or Board, taking Physics, Chemistry and
Biology including practical test in each of these subjects and English as a compulsory subject;

(ii) No candidate shall be admitted to B.H.M.S. Degree Course unless he has attained the age of 17

years' on or before 31 December of the year of his admission to the first year of the course.

(iii) No candidate shall be admitted to B.H.M.S. Degree course if he is blind (including colour
blindness ), deaf, dumb, deaf and dumb.
B.N.Y.S. DEGREE COURSE:

"12 standard with science or any other equivalent examination recognized by University or
Boards with fifty percent aggregate marks in the subjects physics, Chemistry and Biology or Botany
and Zoology taken together".

Eligibility Certificate for Foreign Candidates

The Foreign candidates seeking admission in self-financing colleges should apply before the
cut-off date for admission to I B.S.M.S / B.A.M.S / B.U.M.S / B.N.Y.S
/ B.H.M.S Degree Courses through the Principal of the college only, and have to strictly follow
the following prescribed guidelines:

1. Indian Origin Candidates who have passed Advanced Level Qualification and Central Board of
Secondary Examination in Foreign Countries have to remit a sum of US $500 and Foreign Nationals
have to remit US $ 2000/- towards the cost of application and Eligibility fee. The amount should be
remit through ONLINE REMITTANCE PAYMENT GATEWAY FOR STUDENT AND
OTHERS (NEFT) (or) IOB Challan to be paid at the The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical
University premises, No Demand Draft / Banker’s Cheque will be accepted for the above amount.

2. Candidates who have passed Advanced Level Qualification in foreign countries has to get
Equivalency Certificate from the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi these
Qualifications are EQUATING their qualification to +2 qualification of the Central Board of
Examination / Board of Examination of the concerned State.

3. The Principal has to verify the passport of the candidate such as Date of arrival of the
Candidate in India and validity of the passport.

4. The Principal has to further verify whether the name of the candidate is one and same in the
passport, statement of marks and NOC. The original passport need not be sent to the University.

5.The Institutions admitting candidates from the Foreign countries should obtain the documents
from the candidates in original along with the Photocopies of i) Passport ii) No Objection
Certificate from the Embassies of the concerned foreign countries iii) +2 Statements of marks
issued by the Education Department in the country of their origin.

6.The candidate has to obtain an endorsement in the General Secondary School Certificate
+2 Statement of marks from the both Embassies (i.e. Foreign and India).

7.After obtaining the original documents from the candidate, the Institution has to forward the ‘No
Objection Certificate’ to the Embassies of the concerned foreign countries and get the genuineness
certificate from their Embassies.

8.Also the +2 Statement of marks has to be forwarded to the Education Department of the
countries origin and get the genuineness of the documents duly certified.

9.The Institution has to obtain and furnish a certificate from the Department of Police as to
whether there is any criminal case pending against the candidate in the State of Tamil Nadu (or) any
other State of India.
10. The institution should forward the genuineness of the certificates along with other original
documents such as Passport, No Objection certificate from their Embassies, +2 Statement of marks
along with the Police verification certificate and the required fee to this University, Also a copy to be
marked to the SECRETARY, FOREIGN AFFAIRS MINISTRY, GOVERNMENT OF INDIA,
NEW DELHI.

11.The Institution must themselves apply and get the genuineness of the certificates from the
concerned authorities and should not allow the candidate or his representative or any mediator.

12. The Intuition has to give an undertaking to this effect that the institution only had applied to the
concerned authorities and not the candidate.

13. Henceforth, if the genuineness anyone of the certificate(s) of the candidate is found to be bogus
action will be taken against the institution in the form of withdrawal of the Provisional affiliation
granted to the institution for conducting the course.

14. The institution which admits those said candidates after following these procedures are
SOLELY responsible for the proper conduct of the candidates till he/she passes out of their courses.

15. An undertaking to be obtained from the student in the form of affidavit under the surety of two
Gazette Officers stating that “ if the genuineness of all the certificates of the candidate required by
this University are found to be bogus. I assume that I will be discharged from the course immediately
and I will not claim any refund from the institution”.

16.The Institution should forward the genuineness of the certificates along with other original
documents such as No Objection form their Embassies and +2 Statement of Marks along with the
Police Verification Certificate to the University.
CANDIDATES SEEKING ADMISSION UNDER NRIQUOTA IN SELF- FINANCING
COLLEGES HAVE TO STRICTLY FOLLOW THE FOLLOWING PRESCRIBED
GUIDELINES :

1. Candidate should be of Indian Origin settled in Foreign Countries.


(OR)

Candidate who were born in foreign countries and whose parents are of Indian
Origin.
(OR)

Children of Indian Citizen stay abroad for employment, business.

(OR)

Children of Indian citizens deputed abroad by Public Sector Undertaking

(OR)
Children of the Official of the Central / State Government on deputation to
abroad.

2. The candidate should have completed 17 years on or before 31 December of the year of
admission.

3. The candidates seeking admission to NRI Quota should have held Indian Passport.

4. Candidates seeking admission to Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy courses under NRI Quota
should have passed H.Sc., Examination (10+2 pattern / equivalent)

5. The candidate should have obtained the minimum of 50% marks in Biology or Botany and
Zoology taken together and the minimum of 50% marks in physics and Chemistry.

6. The medium of instruction should be in English.

7. Admission under Non-Resident of India scheme may be made on the basis of the marks obtained
in the qualifying examination as prescribed in clause 4 & 5 above.
8. The duration of the course will be 5-1/2years including One year Internship for Indian
Medicine and Homoeopathy courses.

9. The seats under NRI quota should be utilized by the bonafide NRI’s only and for their
children or wards. Therefore, the NRI financially supporting the candidates should either be the
parent (Father or Mother) of the candidate or legally declared as guardian of the candidate by the
Court as per provisions in ‘The Guardians and Wards Act 1890.

10. Candidates admitted under ‘NRI’ quota should submit the following
documents:

a) NRI status of the financial supporter issued by the Indian


Embassy of the respective country under their seal.

b) Certificate of Relationship between the NRI financial


supporter and the candidate issued by the competent
authority, valid Indian Passport of the NRI financial
supporter.

c) NRE (Non Resident External) Bank Account Pass Book of


the financial supporter.

d) Evidence for payment of Development charges US $ 1000/- to the college by the


NRI financial supporter (One time payment at the time of admission only)

11. The candidates should furnish equivalent marks for the grades awarded at the qualifying
examination. If not, the minimum marks will be taken into consideration.

12. No NRI sponsored candidates are allowed under NRI Scheme.

13. A sworn affidavit in Rs.20/- Non-Judicial Stamp Paper signed by the candidate stating that he
/ she will not have any right to approach the court of law in case he / she was confirmed as a
fraudulent student with bogus certificate, etc.,
