SETTING

It starts on a bright hot summer day, while some are on a vacation to

beat the heat, some people are at a place where the sun makes the deep
clear ocean shine like jewels. Where the luscious evergreen trees are
dancing with the cold breeze coming from the sea; in a place where the
people are always smiling and laughing, and the animals are free and
well. Where the wind carries the smell of fragrant flowers to each and
every one to smell. The place called the town of Loony, the so called
“happiest town in the region”.
A murder takes place in the Mayor’s house at midnight. The next day,
the police come and a detective solves the case with the sun shining
brightly at the town.

ACT I/SCENE I
[Lights dim]
Announcer: All citizens of Loony! Good Morning to you all! Today’s the
day we’ve all been waiting for. May we request everyone to gather at
the Town’s Square for the announcement. See you there!
[Lights slowly brightens]
[Sfx-crowd noise, people laughing and children playing]
(Citizens are walking around the town square)
(Mr. Morgan and his family on the stage platform)
(Mr. Morgan has been the town’s mayor for two years and people love
him so much. After his term, the town held an election to choose their
new mayor)
Mrs. Allen: Oh honey, I’m nervous yet excited for the results.
Mr. James: Calm down. Just stand straight and smile more prettily.
(Mrs. Allen frowns a little but immediately smiles when she sees the
people staring at them.)
Citizen 1(excitedly): Who do you think will win this year’s election?
Citizen 2: My bet’s Mr. Morgan! Did you see him today? He looks
dashing! I just want to--
(Citizen 1 covers the mouth of Citizen 2, shushing her)
Citizen 1: Oh stop you!
(Citizen 1 & 2 giggles)
Announcer: Good Morning! Here in my hand (raises envelope) is the
result of the election. Who do you think will be the Mayor of our
happy town?
[Sfx-crowd cheering]
(People screaming the name of Mr. Morgan)
Announcer: Calm down people! (Chuckles lightly). Now, the elected
mayor, Congratulations...Mayor James Morgan!
(People cheering)
(Mr. Morgan comes forward and handshakes with the announcer)
Mr. Morgan (waving): Thank you for the third time, Loony for trusting
me in running our beloved town. As always, I will do my best to live
up to our reputation being the happiest town in the region.
Citizen 3 (crosses arms): Of course it's Morgan. The people here only
appreciates those who has money and looks.
Citizen 4 (slaps the shoulder of Citizen 3): Stop being bitter. He’s a
good mayor that’s why people love him. Have you seen the improvements
4

of this town ever since he became mayor? Damn. We’re lucky to have him
as our mayor.
(Citizen 3 shrugs his shoulder in annoyance)
Citizen 4: And he’s a good person too. Don’t believe me? Well, let me
tell you about the most beloved family of Loony...
(Lights turn off)

ACT I/SCENE II
(Flashback)
[Change set- Morgans’ home]
[Young James and young Allen enters the set]
(James and Allen just started their married life and they usually talk
about their family’s future. But Allen finds out that she can’t bear a
child)
James Morgan: I still couldn't believe how far we've come already,
Allen. From childhood sweethearts to a married couple. I love you
Allen. Thank you for choosing me.
Allen Morgan (smiles softly): I love you too James but I…
Mr. James: What is it, my love?
Mrs. Allen (stutters nervously): I-I can’t bear a child, James (cries
softly) I’m sorry I’ve disappointed you. I’ve been so careless that I
let our child--
(Mr. James hugs lovingly his upset wife)
Mr. James: Don’t be upset. I’m disappointed, yes but--
(Mrs. Allen cries becomes louder)
(Mr. James continues in comforting his wife)
Mr. James: But, I will never leave you for that. How about we adopt a
child? Will that make you feel better?
Mrs. Allen (excitedly): Yes! And we will give that kid our
unconditional love.
(Mr. James and Mrs. Allen exits their home)
[Turn off stage light]
[Change set-orphanage]
(Mr. James and Mrs. Allen enters the orphanage)
(The couple saw a 6-year-old cute little girl having fun on her own)
Mrs. Allen: James look! The girl holding a doll! I think she is the
one.
(Mr. James and Mrs. Allen approach the child slowly)
Mr. James: Hi sweetheart, what's your name?
(Heather looks up to them and smiles brightly)
Heather: Hello mister! I’m Heather!
(Mrs. Allen slowly hugs her and Heather giggles softly and hugs her
back)
Mr. James (caresses Heather’s head softly) I’ll leave you two for a
while. I’ll talk with the Sister in charge.
[Turn off stage light]

ACT I/SCENE III

[Change set-home]
(As Heather was brought home by the Morgans, she adapted to the
family’s environments very quickly and had shown a bright and positive
attitude to the people she always meets)
5

Heather (overly excited): Good Morning Mommy! Good morning there dog!
Good Morning auntie! Good Morning kitty!
(Heather is always playing at the beach and always goes with his
father at the city hall and she always wears her cutest smile! And had
won different competitions at school that makes her parents proud.)

ACT I/SCENE IV
(Four years later, during the first term of Mr. James as the Mayor of
Loony, Mrs. Allen got pregnant)
Mrs. Allen (smiling brightly): James! I have news! Great news!
Mr. James (laughs softly): Well, hello to you too, honey. What has
made my cute wife act like a cute kid?
Mrs. Allen: I’m pregnant! James, I’m pregnant!
(Mr. James looked at her with shock and happiness that made him
speechless. He hugged her tightly)
Mr. James: Thank you, Allen. I love you so much.
[Slowly dim stage lights until they are off]

ACT I/SCENE V
(Present)
[Stage lights are turned on]
[Sfx-chill festive music]
[Change set-Morgan’s home]
(Many visitors went to the mayor’s house to celebrate the mayor’s
third time being elected mayor of the town. One of the visitors is Mr.
Jude Davis, the mayor’s longtime friend)
Mr. James: Good to see you here, Jude! Thank you for coming.
Mr. Jude: Long time no see, my man! Congratulations! I wouldn’t miss
it, James.
(Mr. Jude Davis became the friend of Mr. James because he once saved
the Mayor from being kidnapped. Ever since that happened, they were
always seen together and people started to see Mr. Jude as someone to
be respected.
(Later that night)
Mr. Jude: Can I stay over for the night? I want to have a chat with
you since we haven’t seen each other much lately. Also,
congratulations for being the mayor of the town of Loony again!
(James and Jude went to the balcony and had a late night drink)

ACT I/SCENE VI
[The Next Morning]
(Head Maid walks to the kitchen)
Head Maid (Screaming): OH MY GOD! Mr. Morgan!
(Mrs. Allen went rushing towards the kitchen)
Mrs. Allen (panting): Goodness! Why are you shouting early in the
morning?! (whispers)
(Head Maid shakenly points towards the dead body of Mr. Morgan)
(Mrs. Allen’s face looked horrified as she saw Mr. James’s dead body
lying on the floor)
Mrs. Allen (Panicking): Call 911! The police! Or anybody!
Head Maid (rushing to get the telephone): Yes, Ma’am
Mrs. Allen (Shouted): Hurry!
6

[Dim the stage lights for a few seconds]

[Sfx-police siren]
[Stage lights are returned to normal lighting]
(Mr. Jason enters the crime scene)
Mr. Jason: What do we have?
(Forensic Team Leader continues taking pictures while describing the
crime scene.)
Forensic Team Leader: Detective Jason, the victim’s name is Mayor
James Morgan. He died due to multiple stab wounds in the different
parts of his body. I think the fatal wounds are on his neck and heart.
He was killed probably around midnight.
Mr. Jason: Seems like our killer really wanted him dead. Look at those
wounds, they’re deep enough to hit bone.
(Forensic team leader nods in agreement)
Mr. Jason: Continue. Thank you.
Mrs. Allen (Panicking and crying as she walks towards Detective
Jason): Oh Detective! They killed my husband! A lot of our things are
missing, it must be a robbery! Please Detective help us, find the
person who did this, find the person who killed my husband! Please
help us!
Mr. Jason: Now, calm down Mrs. Allen. I promise that we’ll help you
find the person who killed your husband but for the meantime, I
suggest everyone to first go and stay at the living room while we’re
investigating.
(Detective Jason first asked everyone on their alibi on the night
before. He first asked the Head Maid)
Mr. Jason: May I ask, what were you doing last night?
Head Maid: I was having a roll call on the maids to see if they left
the mansion or not. These maids leave the mansion at night sometimes
so it’s necessary to have a roll call. After that, we all went to
sleep
Mr. Jason: Were they complete? And is there anyone who can testify
that you went to your room and slept afterwards?
Head Maid: They were all complete sir, but unfortunately no one can
testify that I went to my room straight after
(After questioning the Head Maid, Detective Jason turned to Mr. Jude)
Mr. Jason: Mr. Jude, what’s your relationship with Mr. James?
Mr. Jude: Well, James and I, we were classmates back in high school, I
saved his life and since then we became best friends.
Mr. Jason: Do you mind if I ask you another question?
Mr. Jude: Not at all, sir.
Mr. Jason: Where were you last night?
Mr. Jude: I was in the balcony, having a drink with James. We haven’t
seen each other for a while so I thought it was a good idea to have a
drink and catch up
Mr. Jason (Looking at Mr. Jude’s shirt): What time did you go to bed?
Was there anyone who can prove your statement?
Mr. Jason (Curious): And pardon me for asking, what is that red stain
on your shirt?
(Mr. Jude looked at his shirt)
Mr. Jude: Oh this was from the wine we had, I accidentally spilled a
bit on my shirt when James made a joke. I went to bed around midnight
7

after waiting for James. He told me that he’ll just go to the kitchen
to drink some water to sober up but eventually he never came back.
Only Allen can prove my statement at the time I went to bed.
(Detective Jason looked at Mrs. Allen)
Mrs. Allen (She heard what Mr. Jude said and panicked): I didn’t kill
him. After I washed my face last night, I went straight up to the
second floor since our room is up there. I went to Heather and Shawn’s
room to see if they were already asleep. After that, I was about to go
to our room when I saw Jude standing up from his chair and going to
the guest room on the first floor.
(Detective Jason noticed that there’s something odd about Mrs. Allen,
dirt on her nails and uneven tones on some parts of her body)
Mr. Jason (Curious): Mrs. Allen, what happened there? You seem to have
a bit of dirt on your nails and uneven tones on some part of your
body.
Mrs. Allen: Oh this? (Showing her fingernails to Detective Jason) I
was gardening this morning, I heard someone screaming at the kitchen
so I ran to the kitchen. And these uneven tones are from me being
under the sun a lot.
(Detective Jason was looking at one of their children, Heather,
standing quietly as she’s facing her father’s dead body)
Police Officer: Hey kid, you’re not allowed here, this is a crime
scene investigation. Go to your mother in the living room.
Shawn (whispering to her mother): Mom, why isn’t daddy waking up?
Heather (shouting): That guy is never waking up again!
(Detective Jason looked at Heather with surprise)
Mrs. Allen (angrily shouted): Don’t be rude to your father and refer
to him like that. I’m so sorry Detective Jason, she’s just sad about
what happened, she was the closest to her father. In fact, you could
even see them together all the time.
(Detective Jason looked at Heather. She was sweating a lot because it
was summer, but she still didn’t tie her hair up.)
Heather (walking towards the bathroom): I’m going to the bathroom to
wash my face.
Mr. Jason (looks at Mrs. Allen): Madam, would it be alright to search
around the house for a while?

Mrs. Allen (wiping her tears): Oh please detective, feel free to

search all you want and give justice to my husband’s death.

ACT I/SCENE VII

(Mr. Jason walks around the house.)
(Change set-Garden)
(He first went to the garden and he sees Mrs. Allen and Mr. Jude
talking to each other. They are both standing close to each other and
then they saw the detective.)
Mrs. Allen: Oh hello there detective. Thank you for taking on my
husband’s case. Now if you’ll excuse me. (Leaves)
Shawn (shouting from the living room): Uncle Juuuude!
Mr. Jude: Good day detective, now if you’ll excuse me. (Leaves)
8

(Mr. Jason nods as they leave. He proceeds on looking around the

garden and he saw a patch of dirt, a dirty shovel, and some
footprints.)
Mr. Jason (Soliloquy): It looks like was just buried here recently and
they used this shovel. As that person left, he or she didn’t notice
these muddy footprints.
(Mr. Jason now goes back inside the house, towards the kitchen to
inspect the crime scene.)

ACT I/SCENE VIII

(Change set-Kitchen)
Mr. Jason (Soliloquy): Stabs all over with a kitchen knife. Oh and
what’s this? There’s a stand of black wavy hair entangled on his
fingers, and here under the table, a circle-shaped silver earring. I’m
getting closer. Just a bit more.
(Mr. Jason continued to roam around the house.)
Mr. Jason (Soliloquy): Traces of blood on the bathroom sink, red
liquid on the head maid’s uniform, smudges of blood on the hallway,
staircase and balcony.

ACT I/SCENE IX
(Mr. Jason entered the children’s room)
[Sfx-opening and closing of the door]
(Change set-bedroom)
Mr. Jason (Soliloquy): Blood on the pillow, so the suspect came here
too. Now, let’s see, on little Shawn’s desk, there’s a family picture
of them. (Looks closer into the picture) This earring… Hmm… And a
picture Mr. Jude carrying Shawn as a baby. I guess they really are
close because these toys on the ground also says “from Uncle Jude”.
Now onto the next room.
(Mr. Jason bumps Heather’s desk as he leaves and a picture frame
falls)
Mr. Jason (picks up the picture frame and stutters while speaking): Is
this… Heather? I... I should think about this later. (Breathes in and
out) I must first finish this case.
(Mr. Jason goes to the Master’s bedroom. He looks around for a bit and
opens a drawer with Mrs. Allen’s diary inside. In the diary was a
picture used as a bookmark. As Mr. Jason left the room, he took the
picture. He then went back to the living room.)

ACT I/SCENE X
Mr. Jason (to the head maid): Miss, can you please call everyone back
here.
(The head maid nodded her head and did as he asked.)
Mr. Jason: Thank you for your patience everyone. I now have the answer
to this case.
Mrs. Allen (crying): Oh thank you detective! With this, my husband
will be at peace.
Mr. Jason (slightly pushing Mrs. Allen away): Yes, madam, please calm
down. The answer to who killed Mayor Morgan was none other than you,
Mrs. Allen Morgan.
Mrs. Allen (shocked): What? No… NO! It wasn’t me!
9

Mr. Jason (calmly): I have here evidence that would prove my

statement. A strand of black wavy hair was entangled in the Mayor’s
hands. Also, there was a circle-shaped silver earring at the kitchen
which was surely yours.
Mrs. Allen (sobbing): Why would I want him dead? He’s my husband! And
the other pair of my earring is with Heather! I’m wearing mine now!
Mr. Jude (pressing on the matter more): So are you saying that a 14-
year-old girl has killed her own father so gruesomely?
Mrs. Allen (sobbing continues): I’m not, bu--
Mr. Jason (interrupts Mrs. Allen): And the blood on her pillow was
from your hands when you took her pair of earrings last night when she
was asleep because you couldn’t find yours.
Mr. Jude (interrupts Mr. Jason and shouts with his voice
trembling): Allen wouldn’t do it! She can’t!
Mr. Jason (looks at Mr. Jude): How about you Mr. Jude, weren’t you
having an affair with Mrs. Allen? That’s why you’re defending her that
strongly. (Looks at Shawn) This child, (looks at Mr. Jude again) he is
actually your child isn’t he?
Mr. Jude (shakes his head): What the hell are you saying?! I would
never snatch my friend’s wife! Let alone impregnate her! How dare you
assume such things?!
(Mr. Jason looks at him in amusement)
Mr. Jason: How about you Mrs. Allen? Can you explain what I have seen
today? I saw you earlier talking to Mr. Davis intimately in the
garden. Then, I saw a picture that shows you and Mr. Davis seems to be
too close for being friends in your diary. Shawn Morgan, oh should I
say Davis, Mrs. Allen? I was finally convinced when I saw a picture of
Mr. Jude and Shawn on Shawn’s desk in his bedroom. It seems they’re
always together for Shawn to be so close to him despite Mr. Jude being
a friend of Mr. Morgan.
Mr. Jude (annoyed): What?! You went through her things? May I remind
you, that’s way out of your pay Detective! To touch such personal
things! And are you insulting me? I saved the Mayor’s life! Show me
some respect!
Mr. Jason (Talks slowly): With all due respect sir, it is my job to
investigate. I have asked the MAYOR’S WIFE’s permission to roam around
their home to know who her husband’s killer is. Turns out, she is the
killer of her (sarcastic) beloved husband.
Mr. Jude: But--
Mr. Jason (interrupts Mr. Jude): Now back to the task at hand. Mrs.
Allen, last night after visiting the children, you went to the balcony
and told Mr. Jude that you killed your husband. That’s the reason for
the blood on the balcony. Are you--
Mrs. Allen: YES! YES, DETECTIVE! I’m having an affair with Jude but
that doesn’t mean I want to kill James for me to be with Jude. He
started cheating and he started being cold to me that I rarely see him
at home. That’s when Jude entered my heart which resulted in me having
an affair with him and bearing a son.
(Mrs. Allen covers her face and starts sobbing loudly)
(Mr. Jude hugs Mrs. Allen while rubbing her back to comfort her)
10

Mr. Jason (concerned): He was always beating you up, right? Bruises
that were covered up by foundation was the real reason for the uneven
tones. You must’ve suffered a lot.
Mrs. Allen (shocked): Yes… YES, HE ALWAYS DID! But… It wasn’t me. Yes,
I admit, I wanted to kill him but I can’t! I was too scared to do it!
(Mr. Jason looks at them and shakes his head. He sighs loudly)
Mr. Jason: In the eyes of law and with the evidence I have gathered,
you have the biggest motive to kill the Mayor and as the detective in
charge of this case, Mrs. Allen Morgan, you are under arrest for the
murder of Mayor James Morgan. You have the right to remain silent and
anything you say will be used against you in a court of law. You have
the right to have your own lawyer.
(Mrs. Allen cries hysterically)
[Sfx-The sound of police sirens approach]
Mr. Jason: That’s enough madam. We can talk about this further in
prison. The police are taking you into custody along with Mr. Jude for
suspicion of being your accomplice in this crime.
(Police officers put handcuffs on Mrs. Allen’s and Mr. Jude’s wrists
and they lead them to the police car afterwards.)
Mrs. Allen (sobbing and struggling): No! NO! It wasn’t me! BELIEVE ME!
Mr. Jason (faces the children): Now, what to do with the both of you?
Hmm, how about the both of you come with me to my house since both of
your parents aren’t here. Just to be safe.
Shawn (excitedly): Are there toys in your house, mister?
Mr. Jason (chuckles): Of course there are, there are a lot of toys.
(Heather stares at Mr. Jason)
Mr. Jason (notices that heather is staring): Is there anything wrong?
Heather (pauses for a while): Nothing sir.
Mr. Jason (smiles): Okay then, let’s go before it gets dark.
(Mr. Jason noticed Heather was upset)
Mr. Jason (kneel at the front of the children): Don't worry the both
of you, your mom will be fine.
(The children were smiling and feel comforted)

ACT I/SCENE XI
[Change set-Mr. Jason’s home]
[Dim stage lights to show that it is already night time]
[Sfx–unlocking and opening of door]
(Shawn immediately enters Mr. Jason’s and look around the place.)
Shawn (excitedly): Mr. Jason! Your house is lovely!
(Looks towards Mr. Jason who is still standing beside the door with
Heather)
Shawn: Thank you for bringing us here.
(Shawn continues to explore the place.)
Mr. Jason (enters his home with his arm stretched towards the inside
of the place): Why don’t you come in Heather? It’s cold and already
dark outside. It has been a long day for us. We should prepare
ourselves for bed and get some rest.
(Heather stares at Mr. Jason intensely. Mr. Jason continues smiling
towards Heather.)
Heather (looked down and mumbling): I killed him. It was me.
(Mr. Jason looks at her with an amused face.)
11

Heather (she stares at nothing while her voice gains volume): That
monster. I have always known I was adopted, that I don’t belong in
that household and yet I tried to fill their longing for a child. But
he…
(Heather starts to shake)
Heather: He did things that a father shouldn’t to his daughter! I can
still feel him everywhere in my body…He disgusts me!!
(Heather look towards Mr. Jason)
Heather: I told my mom what he was doing but she just—
(Mr. Jason holds her shoulder to interrupt Heather)
Mr. Jason: I know it was you. I wouldn’t be the best detective in town
for nothing.
(Heather looked shocked)
Heather (stuttering): Ha—When? What? Then how did all of THAT happen?
Mr. Jason (chuckling): Oh sweetheart, you wound me. Of course it was
me. I did all THAT. Amazing isn’t it? It was easy as pie and your
mother didn’t even look. Well, she was too busy flirting with your
uncle.
(Mr. Jason held the arm of Heather as he went inside)
Mr. Jason: I was the one who put your mom’s earring in the kitchen
when I went to their room. I took a strand of hair from your mother's
comb and put it in your father's hand. And all the other information
was just twisted up to make her the prime suspect.
Heather: How did you know it was me?
Mr. Jason: When you called your father “that guy” and your hair was
down even though we are being burned by the sun, I had a hunch that
something was wrong. Then, I started going around your house to
investigate that’s when I knew it was you. I saw footprints in the
garden and they had the same pattern and size of your shoes.
(Mr. Jason caresses Heather’s hair then lifts it a little)
Mr. Jason (irritated): You let your hair down because of these hickeys
that monster gave you.
Heather: Why did you do this?
Mr. Jason (kneels down in front of Heather): You really don’t remember
me? You were always with me, your brother, in the orphanage then you
were adopted and I was left alone in that place. I longed for you,
Heather. When I was old enough to leave, I strived so hard to make a
living and get a good job just to find you.
(Mr. Jason slowly stands up)
Mr. Jason (smiles softly): So when I saw your picture in the Morgans’
home, I had to do something for you to be with me again. I’m not
letting you go now that I have found you.
(Heather slowly steps away from Mr. Jason, looking at him)
Heather (angrily): How can you do this? YOU’RE CRAZY! How can you let
an innocent woman--(stutters) you’re supposed to be a hero of
justice…You’re horrible and twisted!
(Mr. Jason looks at Heather and chuckles)
Mr. Jason: Oh but you’re horrible and twisted too. Like me. Those stab
wounds! Heather, you’ve grown into a strong lady and you really
assured that he’ll go to hell for everything that he’d done to you.
Heather (horrified): SHUT UP! I’m not like you, crazy bastard!
(Heather ran towards Shawn and grabs his arm)
12

Heather: Don’t come near me or my brother ever again!

(Heather drags Shawn and gets out of Mr. Jason’s home)
(Mr. Jason tilts his head to the side as he stares at the door)
Mr. Jason: Crazy, that’s an underestimating word for me. Hmm… ah yes,
Loony. Loony is the perfect word for a brilliant person like me.
(Mr. Jason laughs loudly and maniacally)
[Sfx-echoes of laughter]
[Sfx-doors slowly creaks and closing softly]

ACT 1/SCENE XII

[Sfx-metal sounds]
Mr. Jason (struggling to get free from being tied up): Let me out! My
sister needs me!
Heather (in a sad tone): I hope he gets better soon.
Mrs. Allen (shouting at Heather): For heaven’s sake Heather! Don’t
even wish for that!
Heather (confused): But why mom?
Mrs. Allen (angry): Why? You are seriously asking me why right now?
Heather, that person, the one that you are calling your brother, has
killed my beloved husband James!
Mr. Jason (still struggling): I’ll be her hero! I’ll save her!
Heather! Heather! I’ll kill the monsters! You’ll be safe! (Begging)
Please let me out! (Continues to shout and repeat the same things)
Mrs. Allen (angry): Hear that! He’s crazy and because of those
imaginations, he thought that your father was a monster! If only I
didn’t pity him back then, I would have sent him here earlier! Or
better if I didn’t adopt the both of you from the orphanage!
Heather (crying): Don’t say that mom, he’s still my brother and your
child. It just so happened that we weren’t always asking how he was,
and maybe that’s how everything piled up and drove him crazy.
Mrs. Allen (ordering Heather): Oh hush now! We’re leaving that maniac
here! (Leaves the stage)
Heather (approaching the door to Mr. Jason’s hospital room): You’ll
get better brother, I promise. One day, you’ll get out of this mental
hospital and we’ll be together again. (Leaves the stage)
Mr. Jason (shouting while laughing sinisterly): Make way! Make way!
The great detective of the town of Loony is coming your way!
