 PREFACE

The first version of this manual was prepared for a five-day

course in Subsurface Facies Analysis in 1975-
Subsequently I have given this course many times, both in the
five-day format and in shorter versions.
It has been held for oil company audiences in London,
Norway, Canada and Australia, as well as on many occasions
in the U.S.A. as part of the A.A.P.G. Continuing Education
Program.
Like the course this manual has been revised several
times before reaching its present temporary format.
