Voices from International Students

Nu Nu Mai (From Myanmar) Doctoral Program, Graduate School for International Development and Cooperation
I am so blessed for being a student of Hiroshima University. Hiroshima University is the place where my ideas can
fully express and come to operationalization. University library is one of the most extensive libraries in Japan, has
a collection of around 3.4 million books, and a perfect place for studying. Hiroshima University held several
conferences, special seminars, and workshops, and also has financial supports for presenting at international
research conferences and joining study abroad programs. Academic activities (such as an intensive discussion with
supervisor and presenting research papers at seminars/conferences) are valuable supports for my academic career.
So, I would highly recommend you to come and study at Hiroshima University for your further education.

Krit Komolsirikul (From Thailand) Undergraduate Program, School of Integrated arts and Sciences
Personally, I believe that IGS is a perfect environment for international student who are looking for
international program in Japan. In this program, Japanese language ability is not required for foreigner
student. However, you still have opportunities to join Japanese classes and other lectures teaching by
Japanese. There are a lot of interesting classes which I am very satisfying in here. If you love to study in
environment of variety cultures, I pretty sure that the department of Integrated Global Studies (IGS) school
of Integrated Arts and Sciences Hiroshima University will be the best choice for you.

Resident Status
International students wishing to enter Hiroshima University are required to gain the necessary qualifications to stay in
Japan as an international student, namely the qualification of “Student” as provided in the Japanese Immigration-Control and
Refugee-Recognition Act.
When you come to Japan to submit an application or to take the entrance examination, you may come by visas other than
student visa. When coming for enrollment procedures at this University, only after you have passed the examination and
completed registration it is necessary for you to obtain the status of “Student” (It is possible that you may have to apply for the
status of “Student” back in your country of residence).

Acquisition of Certificate of Eligibility

The Certificate of Eligibility (CoE) is a document issued by the Immigration Bureau of the Japanese Ministry of Justice as
evidence that the foreign national meets the conditions for landing in Japan, including the requirements that the activity in
which the foreign national wishes to engage in Japan.
A student of foreign nationality wishing to enter a Japanese university as an international student needs to apply for a visa
with status of "Student" at the nearest Japanese Embassy or Consulate before entering Japan. For application, you may submit a
Certificate of Eligibility to the Japanese Embassy or Consulate together with your passport and required documents. Your entry
visa can be obtained within a short period.
The International Center of Hiroshima University will perform the necessary procedures to apply for your Certificate of
Eligibility to the Immigration Bureau. It will take about 1 to 3 months for issuance of Certificate of Eligibility. Therefore we
recommend that you perform the online application and submit the required documents for the CoE as soon as you receive
your Notification of Acceptance.

The application procedure is on the following websites.
