BoldFlash

1. The firm BoldFlash is facing the issue of structural deficiency. There is no coordination
between the functional or inverted u structure of the company. Each department is
working independently and is solely working to meet its target which is hampering the
functioning of other departments and causing friction in the overall functioning of
company and company’s mobile division is making loses past five years. Goals of
efficiency are set differently for different departments and there is no synergy between
them and goal of department is antagonistic of other department. There is also lack of
coordination and communication among departments and every department is working as
individuals rather then a team seeking common objective. Due to the goals set by
previous head of the company the departments are competing with each other in order
their own targets.

2. The organization is currently designed as a functional-groups or in a inverted u with


departments divided on the basis of roles and functions of them. It leads to delayed
decision making which is detrimental for the mobile division as they are working in a
highly volatile and competitive market. There is a restricted view of goals in the
organization. There is lack of horizontal coordination within departments as each
department is unaware of the work being done in other department which as led to overall
reduction in the efficiency of different departments. There is no mechanism of inter-
departmental coordination and each department works as separate entity.

3. Cahill has created more departments in the current organization structure which didn’t
addressed the current problem of lack of coordination among the departments. In order to
reduce the conflicts between the departments cross-functional teams should be formed
while working on the product development consisting members from each department so
that each department should be aware of other departments weaknesses and strengths.
Overall organization goals should be set instead of departmental goals so that all the
department could work together to achieve them instead of running for their own
department goals which are currently met at stake of other department’s goals and overall
reduced efficiency of the company.
