‘“World’s Smallest Cathedral” to close it’s doors.
‘The “Worlds Smallest Cathedral” in Highlandville, MO will close it’s doors November
1* 2010 after 27 years of existence.
It began when Karl Pruter moved from Chicago, IL to Highlandville to retire. He
purchased a home that originally belonged to Mabel Campbell Kentling who was
Highlandville’s first woman postmaster. Pruter had spent many years traveling in
Germany and thought the old stone wash houseon the property resembled the many small
churches he had come across in the Bavarian countryside, He converted the building into
a cathedral, remodeling the inside, crafting miniature pews, and installing the distinctive
blue cupola that adorns the roof. He held services in the building for over two decades. In
1984 it was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the “Smallest Cathedral in
the World.”
In 2005 Pruter’s poor health made it impossible for him to maintain the property any
longer so he put it up for sale. Larry & Darlene Jackson purchased the property and
granted Pruter continued use of the Cathedral for the duration of his lifetime. The
Jacksons also named the adjoining subdivision they developed “Cathedral Estates” in
honor of the Cathedral. Karl Pruter held services until May of 2007 and passed away in
‘November of 2007 at the age of 87.
Even though services are no longer held the Jacksons have continued to maintain the
Cathedral and keep it open for the many visitors from around the world who continue to
visit it daily.
‘The Jacksons made the decision to sell the property which includes a remodeled 3
bedroom, 2 bath house in addition to the Cathedral when Larry was diagnosed with stage
4 colon cancer. Having been unable to find a qualified buyer interested in owning the
World’s Smallest Cathedral the decision was made to close the Cathedral and convert it
back to its original state as a simple stone outbuilding in the hopes of making the property
appeal to a wider range of buyers.
‘The property is listed for sale with their son Chad Jackson at Heartland Realty Co. in
Nixa, MO. Chad can be reached at } or 417-619-8345 {mobile.}
Larry & Darlene Jackson can be reached at f you have further questions.

Bishop Karl Priiter Passed Into Glory November 18, 2007
Dear Folks,
Bishop Karl Prater went home to be with the Lord Sunday evening November 18, 2007 around 8 pm. His wife Teresa
‘was with him and he was most assuredly surrounded by a great cloud of angels and saints. He fought the good fight and
finished the race. Teresa was reading Psalm 23 and holding his hand and as she came to the end ofthe Psalm, he let go
and flew to the arms of his Lord and Saviour. His death was peaceful and gentle, one we would all hope to be blessed
‘with when our time comes, While he will be missed greatly, nt one of us would rob him ofa single second with his Lord
(Christ whom he loved so much. We give thanks for many things in his life but particularly we give thanks for his
Christian witness and his dedication to the Old Catholic Movement
