CALCULATING AVERAGE DAILY ATTENDANCE

There are two types of ADA:

1. The Average Daily Attendance by school and

a. This calculation means how many students were at school on average for a period of
time.
b. This calculation is not used for Accountability reporting or AYP.
2. The Average Dailey Attendance rate by student
a. This calculation shows what the average daily rate of attendance was compared to the
opportunities to attend per student.
b. The average daily attendance rate is used for the Accountability Report and AYP.

Each Student Calculates (ADA Rate) as Follows:

1. Number of days present for the time period surveyed

2. Number of days absent for the time period surveyed
3. Number of days not enrolled for the time period surveyed
4. (1) + (2) + (3) = possible number of days for attendance had the student remained enrolled
5. (1) / [(4) – (3)] = That student’s attendance rate, allowing for the days not enrolled.
6. Add all the percentages and divide by the number of students.

Please Note: Each student is calculated as a full day being all of the classes in his/her schedule that
count for attendance. If a student has 4 classes and misses one, they will be present .75 and absent .5
for that day.

Example:

Bob Mackey:

 Present 16 days in a statistical month

 Absent 1 days
 Was not enrolled 1 day

16 + 1 +1 = 18

16/[18-1]

16/17

94.1 is Bob’s ADA rate

Each School Calculation (ADA) is as Follows:

1. Number of students each day in attendance.

2. Number of days in the calculation.
3. (1) /(2)

Example: School X ADA for one week.

Number of Students in Attendance:

Day 1: 217

Day 2: 233

Day 3: 197

Day 4: 198

Day 5: 200

Calculation:

217 + 233 + 197 + 198 + 200 = 1045

1045 divided by 5 days = 209 ADA is 209 for School X for one week.
