3D Printing For Tubular Steel
3D Printing For Tubular Steel
The Netherlands created foot bridge from 3D printing using stainless steel material
Using metallic additive, the methods are:
1. Direct energy deposition (DED):
2. Power bed fusion (PBF): selectively melt a pre-deposited metallic or ceramic
INTRODUCTION
High strength steel can be additive material.
Investigation include: additive, the specimen, strengths, etc.
Using H13 high strength steel powder
The machine: SLM 125HL system
Different patterns direction of printing (X or Y direction (bidirectional); spiral (loop
route))
RESULTS
Coupon poor ductility, but really strong , sudden fracture without necking, very
brittle material. compression > tension
No imperfection, it can be classed into A for CHS
Pattern spiral violent failure but the ultimate strength higher than bidirectional.
For hot-rolled and cold formed up to 700 MPa
