GENERATIONS OF COMPUTER

There are Five generations of Computer

1) 1st Generation ( 1942-1954 )

2) 2nd Generation ( 1954- 1964 )
3) 3rd Generation ( 1964-1972)
4) 4th Generation ( 1972-1990)
5) 5th Generation ( 1990-Onwards)

1) First Generation:
In thios generation of computer started with using
Vaccum tubes as basic Components for memory and Circuitry for Cpu.
These were machine code and electric wired board languages used
Ex: ENIAC, EDAC, UNIAC, IBM-701, IBM-650
2) Second Generation:
This generation using transistor were cheaper,
Consumed less price, more compact in size, more reliable and faster than
first generation machines. There were patch processing and
Multiprogramming operating system used.
Ex: IBM 1620, IBM 7094, CDC 1604, CDC 3600, UNIAC 1108
3) Third Generation:
This generation of Computer is marked by use of
Integrated Circuit (IC) in the place of transistor. A single IC have many
transistors, resistors and Capacitor Along with associated Circuitry. This
was invented by Jack Kilby.
Language Used: (FORTAN II to IV, COBOL, PASCAL PL, BASIC ALGOL-
68 etc.)
Ex: IBM-360 Series, IBM-3701168, TDC-316
