IOT Based Weather Monitoring System

Introduction:
IOT is the network of physical devices that allow the devices to communicate
with each other. IOT allows remote sensing and control over the devices. It is an advanced
automation and analysis system which uses its sensors to deliver advanced and automated
products and services. These systems allow greater transparency, control, and good
performance. IOT has several automation applications like smart home, smart parking, smart
roads etc. Weather is the day-to-day state of the atmosphere that is hard to predict which
affects the activities of mankind and has great significance in many different domains.
However, the current weather station in the market is expensive and bulky which cause
inconvenience. The aim of this project is to design a weather station with real time notifications
for climatology monitoring, interface it to a cloud platform and analyse weather parameters.

3 “Wireless 2014 They have proposed their system for

SensorNetwork System environmental monitoring
Design using Raspberry applications. This system includes an
Pi andArduino for in-situ base station and a number of
Environmental distributed wireless sensor nodes.
Monitoring Base station is designed using
Applications”, Raspberry Pi Model B. networked
sensor nodes are developed using
Sheikh Ferdoush, Arduino and Zigbee modules. To
Xinorong Li access the sensor nodes and data
from the outside world, a web
application is developed on the base
station using the Apache HTTP web
server. This system is low-cost,
compact, scalable, easy to
customize, easy to deploy and easy
to maintain. This system can be
expanded by integrating additional
sensing modalities to sensor nodes.
Also web interface can be further
developed.

agricultural parameters monitoring.
5 “Weather Forecasting 2016 M. Rahaman Laskar et al. presented
using Arduino Based paper on weather forecasting using
Cube-Sat”, Arduino and Cube-Sat. : This
proposed system uses temperature
R. Bhattacharjee, and humidity sensor (DHT11),
M. Sau Giri and pressure and altitude sensor
P. Bhattacharya, (BMP180) and accelerometer
(ADXL-335). The data processing
unit Arduino Uno is used. Cube
satellite is used to provide
information of weather from
anywhere without using network. A
gas balloon is used to hold and carry
the Cube satellite. This system is
simple to construct, portable, cost
efficient, low power consuming and
reliable. But there are some
limitations such as device may not
communicate at long distance
without powerful transceiver
section, at higher altitude record of
data with the help of gas balloon
may be a problem and components
may be damaged by rain or long
time use.

Proposed System:
The system proposed is an advanced solution for weather monitoring that uses
IoT to make its real time data easily accessible over a very wide range. The system deals with
monitoring weather and climate changes like
1. Temperature, humidity by using the DHT11 sensor,
2. Quality of air using MQ135 sensor.

Advantages:
● nlike conventional weather monitoring instruments is very small and compact
U
allowing it to be installed easily on rooftops.
● It is light and portable; this advantage allows us to easily carry it to remote
location for installation. Due to its design it can be easily be carried by a weather
balloon to measure atmospheric changes at high altitudes.
● The sensors used in this product are much cheaper compared to the ones that
are used in the existing weather monitoring systems making this design more
cost effective.
● Due to the presence of fewer moving parts less amount of maintenance will be
needed cutting down on maintenance charges.
