India

 Or Republic of India is also called Bharat and Hindustan. It’s a country in South Asia.

 New Delhi is the capital of India. (25 million inhabitants)

 It is the seventh-largest country by area, the second-most populous country with over

1.3 billion people.

 Major religions — Hinduism (80%), Islam (15%), Christianity (2.4%), Sikhism (2%),

Buddhism (0.7%), Jainism (0.5%) and other (0.4%).

 The British ruled India for about 200 years. India became an independent nation on

15th August 1947.

 India has the largest democracy in the world, the 6th largest country in the world and

one of the most ancient and living civilizations (at least 5, 000 years old).

 There are 29 states and 7 union territories.

 There are 23 official languages including Hindi and English.

 The Indian film industry or Bollywood produces the world's most-watched cinema.

 The number system was invented by Indians. Aryabhata was the scientist who

invented the digit zero.

 Algebra, Trigonometry and Calculus are studies which originated in India.

 The 'place value system' and the 'decimal system' were developed in 100 BC in India.

 Hindu society is traditionally based on a caste system. The four basic castes are

Brahman (priest), Kshatriya (warrior), Vaishya (merchant or farmers), Shudra (labor

class) and beneath all, the Untouchables.

 Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully launched a spacecraft to

Mars.

 Half of the word’s outsourcing IT services come from India amounting to a 47-billion-

dollar industry.
