To Whom it May Concern, November 1, 2017
It is my pleasure to write this letter of recommendation for Nick St. Charles. For three years Nick has
been an integral part of the KCBS newsroom, tackling and becoming adept at a variety of tasks and
positions.
Nick's writing skills are superb, as are his verbal communication skills. His wide variety of interests, his,
knowledge of the world and its issues, make him a vibrant member of a creative team. His natural
‘tendency toward generosity with his time and attention make him a go-to for any team, Nick's most
common response to any request was, “happy to help with that.” That said, Nick also Is a self-
motivator, disciplined in his work, clear in his intentions, punctual, dependable and professional.
‘The combination of his talents and work ethic was on full display as the KCBS Newsroom mobilized to
cover the massive wildfires that consumed California's wine country in October of this year. Nick helped
manage the placement of a dozen reporters across several counties for days on end, managed getting
their reports along with critical, ever-changing information on the air at a moment's notice, facilitated
the anchors with up to date information as well as a parade of officials and specialists for live interviews.
Nick crafted difficult information and crushing statistics into clear and respectful news copy, telling the
story from dozens of angles while keeping the humanity of it all front of mind,
Interms of the specific skils we required of Nick; critical thinking, interviewing, writing, audio editing,
news judgment, booking interview guests, managing anchors and reports in a continuing live broadcast
environment, research, fact-checking, as well as the mentoring and training of new employees
'A24/7 radio newsroom is a noisy, stressful, deadiine oriented place filled with smart, quick-witted and
sometimes merciless personalities. It takes a certain kind of quiet self-confidence and a well-developed
sense of humor to manage it all and become a favorite colleague, but Nick hit ali the right notes,
V’d be happy to tell you more about Nick's time at KCBS, his work, and his impact on the newsroom and
his co-workers. Please feel free to call me at 435-765-4058, or email me at memillan@kcbs.com.
Sincerely,
