Insights and realization are given to me as a student by this course we took, the
Literacy Training Service. LTS, a branch of the NSTP that deals on how students like us
be a better citizen, a catalyst for change and a role model for others. “In order to help
others find themselves, you must first know yourself.”, as an individual, we all have 4
parts of ourselves that differ from others, these differences guide us to know our
limitations, to know our place, and to know what to do and where to be. A significant
part of teaching is knowing who you really are, we must first know our own self, our real
self and our ideal self to correctly know how to teach.

Maintaining safety and security, thinking also the welfare of others, being
peaceful and orderly, stated are some characteristics to be a good citizen. Being
practical, being a good citizen makes you be charismatic on others, with that you’ll be
able to have good relations with your neighbors, and if you have good relations, you’ll
have more trust and confidence around your place. But, setting aside the practicality,
being a good citizen can make your eyes open and be more aware to the surroundings,
may it be on ecology or economy. With clear understanding of the good values and
characteristics, sooner or later, it’ll lead you on having a good citizenship.

Drug addiction, a problem present worldwide. Responsible for millions of money

wasted and hundreds of thousands of life wasted too, drug addiction is need for and use
of a habit-forming substance such as marijuana, heroin or alcohol. This topic ensures
that no one in the branch, LTS, should be part of such vulgar activity, knowing this is
advantageous to us because having the integrity to decline if invited to partake in this is
taught here. And by knowing what substance they are using, you can easily identify the
treatment needed by them and you also will have knowledge on the effects of drugs on
us. By showing its effects, its sources and its cost, is the best way to prevent and
discourage all, young or old, from drug addiction and substance use.
Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, is yet another important course to us
future teachers, not only does it make us knowledgeable on our environment but also
equip us the skills on dealing with such disasters. “Prevention is better than cure.”,
preventing deaths is better than healing wounds, this topic enhances our capacity to
manage human and reduce risks to also reduce disaster. It gives us the knowledge of
dealing with emergencies. This also enhanced our civic consciousness, unifying
individuals and working together as a group to be ready for calamities.

We have only one earth, we need to protect it. Sustainable development

environmental protection is the part where we eradicate racism, class and social status,
for the betterment of ourselves. Food, clean water, quality education, all must be
present for us to attain the sustainable development, with this everything will be like the
utopia that we wanted. We need to protect our environment because we are only
borrowing it on our future generations. Nationalism is instilled in this topic, along with
the volunteerism, because you need volunteerism to start the environmental protection,
with that also comes nationalism, these three are always interconnected. You need
nationalism to volunteer, and you need to volunteer to attain environmental protection.

I, as a young adult, a flipino citizen and a future teacher, I can impart myself to
teach young minds, illiterate or not, and be obliged to educate them and to instill values
in my teachings without asking for a return. The spirit of bayanihan should be practiced
in everything, it’s our tradition and it’s in our bloods. New knowledge and information is
given to those who want and it’s not only beneficial to students but also for the
community. Everything can be changed, like the environment, by teaching DRRM and
such to them, processes will be fluid because of the good citizenship. With the help of
LTS, we are being more aware and more open to the core values that we really should
practice that’ll help us to maintain our good relation with each other.
