Math 1030 Finance Project Reflection

Math 1030 has taught me lots of different concepts from trigonometry, growth models,

graph theory, and probability, but the unit that had the biggest impact on me in the Finance unit.

Not only did this unit challenge me mathematically but also taught me some life lessons that I

will take with me for the rest of life. Specifically the Finance Project taught me some valuable

lessons about the concept of buying vs renting houses.

As I graduate high school this year, and move on to bigger and better things finance is a

concept that I will need to have a very good grasp on. In the finance unit, especially the final

project I learned about the advantages and disadvantages of buying vs renting a house. I learned

that while initially it may seem like the cheaper option to rent, in the long run buying a house is a

much better option. I learned a lot about the importance of owning property and how it can

increase in value over time. I am really glad I was able to do this project and learn from it as I

would not have thought that buying a house is a better option financially than renting.

As I move out of my parents house and off to college, and eventually onto a house of my

own I think it is very important to have a good concept on finance. While this unit obviously did

not tell me everything I needed to know about finance it did give me a good base knowledge

while challenging my math skills.
