STRUCTURAL SCOPE OF WORK FOR PROCESS OFFSHORE PLATEFORM

1. Design Stages

The various design stages in an offshore project is listed below.

 Front End Engineering Design (FEED) or Concept Selection

 Basic Design
 Detailed Design

2. Work of the structural engineer

I. Collection of Process Data and identifying process needs and equipment-completed

II. Preliminary equipment sizing and area requirements-completed
III. Identification of installation methods-completed
IV. Preliminary estimation of structural weight
For Preliminary estimation of structural weight following input are necessary:
 Process information containing type of fluid (oil or gas) and its characteristics, safety
requirements and kind of process technology to be adopted.-Defined.
 Mechanical requirement such as type of facility and basic equipment required for the
process, and material handling and safety.-Defined.
 Electrical requirement such power generation equipment, lighting and switch gears
etc.-Not Required
 Instrumentation requirement such as basic control system, feedback requirement etc.-
Not Defined
 Piping information such as pressures, pipe sizes required etc.-Defined.
 Meta-Ocean information such as wave, current, wind and tidal information at the site.-
Not Defined.
 Structural requirement such as materials proposed or available for use in the country,
design method to be adopted, codes and specifications to be used etc.-Defined.
 Installation information such as type of barge, lifting crane, load out method, piling
hammer etc.-Defined.
Other work to be Proceed.

3. Estimation of loads

Gravity Loads

 Structural Dead Loads.

 Facility Dead Loads.
 Fluid Loads.
 Live Loads.

Environmental Loads

 Wind Loads.
 Wave Loads.
 Current Loads.
 Buoyancy Loads.
 Ice Loads.
 Mud Loads.
 Seismic Loads.

4. Designing of structure

Based on loads the top side deck are design and deck framing, Deck grating, Deck beam and deck plating
are also defined and based on load of top side deck the jacket structure will be defined(whether it is
three leg platform or four leg platform).

For deck structure following items should be developed.

 Framing Plans.
 Framing Elevations.
 Joint Details.
 Plate Girder Details.
 Connection Details.
 Welding Details.
 Deck plating & grating.
 Stairways and Walkways.
 Lifting Pad eyes.
 Transportation tie-down.
 Equipment Support Details.

5. SIMULATION
With the advancement in computer and software technology and availability of computers, the
structural analysis of structures has been made easy and fast. There are a number of commercial
computer programs available specifically coded to carry out three dimensional structural analysis for
offshore structures. For analysis we use SACS 5.6.

Following preparatory activities are required before analysis and design can be carried out:
 Structure Geometry selection.
 Geometry Simulation.
 Foundation Simulation.
 Load Simulation.
