sapagkat marami pa ang hugasin sa bahay.

[Soldiers ties her hands and covers her mouth with handkerchief]
[The woman struggles to escape but soon faints]
[Attempts rape.]

Scene 3: The Friar

Narrator: Haciendas or argricultural lands were once under the care of the rural folks
who had been living in them. Along with the infamous guardia civil under the friar’s
orders, they ruled their lands poorly thus incited agrarian reforms, hence incuring the
wrath of the friars.

This happened during the absence of Rizal and although he wasn’t there to witness it
he received a letter from his elder brother, Paciano only to know that a great calamity
has befallen upon Calamba.

[A friar comes into view, reading a newspaper]

Friar: [stands up in anger] Curse that Rizal! Siya at kanyang mga adbocasiya That’s it!
I’ll make him pay, his people pay! Mga kawal!

[soldier 1 enters]
Soldier 1: Si fraile?
Friar: Since paying taxes and rent won’t shut them up, palayasin ito sa kanilang mga
tirahan!
Soldier 1: Si fraile!
Scene 4: The haciendas
[The setting displays farmers doing their jobs, women with their chores, children helping
their parents.]

Woman 4: Ahh kay tahimik ng paligid, hindi ba sa tingin mo?

Woman 1: Baka dahil ay kagabi may ginahasa at binugbog.
Woman 4: Sumpain sila! if only someone who come to our aid.
Woman 1: [to woman 4] I heard that merong nag petisyon laban sa mga prayle dahil sa
kanilang maling pamamalakad sa ating mga lupain.
Woman 4: [to woman 1] Mukhang ganon na nga. Revolts have become common these
days. I wouldn’t be surprised kung merong pagsalakay ang magaganap.
Woman 2: [to woman 4] How could there not be revolts? Mga demonyo ng simbahan!
All they did were to sully our dignity, take over our lands and take taxes after taxes mula
sa ating mga bulsa!

Woman 4: [to woman 2] Ang mga Dominikano! Augustinians! At ang mga Pranses!
Kinasusuklaman ko sila ng buong buo!
Woman 1: [to woman 2] Tama! Pagkatapos ng ginawa ng ating mga ninuno para sa
lupaing ito! Mira! Our money doesn’t even go to the government kundi sa kanilang mga
bulok na simbahan!

Woman 2: [to woman 1] They don’t even own the lands but still collect excessive taxes!
Kung hindi lamang sa ipinagkaloob sa kanila ng korona ng Espanya! What has this
country turned into!

Narrator: Rizal initiated advocacys of agrarian reforms in 1887 only to ignite wrath of
the Dominican friars who retaliated by raising the rentals of the lands and later on raids
were put into action.

[the crowd continues to chatter]

[far off the distance a group of soldiers approaches]

Soldier 1: [to his platoon, in a loud voice] Soldado! Paalisin ang mga residente sa
kanilang mga bahay sa loob ng 24 oras! Ayon ito sa utos ng prayle!
Soldier 2: Si senor!
Scene 5: The raid
Narrator: A raid was ordered to vacate every family from their residences within 24
hours and although it was pressumed to happen, nobody expected it to be so soon.

[Woman 3 notices a soldier approaching and starts running towards the crowd]
Woman 3: Nanang! Nanang! Nanang! [trips over woman 1]
Woman 1: [to woman 3] Nina! What is it? Magsalita ka nga! Sabihin mo!
Woman 3: [exhausted] Isang paglusob! Mga kawal sa malayo!

[Guards approaches, corners the crowd and shows hostility]

Soldier 1: Indios! Umalis kayo sa mga lupain ngayon na!

Woman 2: [protests] Nagbabayad kami ng buwis! We have every right to be here!

[Soldier 1 glances at soldier 2 signaling him]

[Soldier 2 nods and grabs woman 3 by the hand]
Soldier 2: Sabi niya umalis! [throws woman 3 to the ground]

[Remaining women screams in fear]

[Soldiers begin to destroy their residences]

Woman 2: No!
Woman 3: Nanang don’t! It’s too late!
Woman 2: My hard earned belongings!
[Soldier 2 throws her to the ground as well]
