INTRODUCTION
Audacious ACAAN is the 4th instalment of the Audacious series. The Audacious
Series comprises of bold Mentalism and I feel ACAAN can be both Magical and a
Mental feat at the same time.
Back in 2015 I had published C.I.A.: Challenging & Intensive ACAAN, it was
originally intended as a part of Audacious series, but I later pulled it out for
reasons I no longer remember. And since then I have published quite a few
different versions of Any Card At Any Number (Page - 17).
Had C.I.A. been a part of the series then this might have been the 5th instalment
because CIA allows you to deal the cards face up while TAA allows only face down
dealing.
There is an element used here that I would credit to ASI WIND because I first saw
him perform it in one of his performance videos up on YouTube.

PREPARATION
CARD BOX :-

Tear off the sides of the box upto the line on


the box design (watch the blue arrow below).
Or more if it isn’t comfortable for you.

This needs to be done for both the sides.

Give a soft crease to it.

PLAYING CARDS :-
Shorten the ACES and any one of the 12 court cards (I prefer the King of ♥). Once you’ve shortened
the cards, press the edges between your nails to give a smooth feel to it.

Arrange the deck in


the adjacent order.

NOTE :

2 court cards (King


and Queen of ♦s)
has been excluded.

Place any card of


your choice on the
other end of the
court card stack.

You may also stick 1 or 2 layers of
matte finish tape on the back of the
shortened cards in order to give it a
little more thickness - that’ll result
in better visibility when the deck is
inside the card case.

Make sure that the tape exceeds the


central design and peeps into the
outer design on both the short ends.

Collect the deck in a pile (like below) and place it in the box.

HOW THE STACK WORKS
The suits have a value. ♠ = 1 = 1 pointed top // ♥ = 2 = 2 arc-sides // ♣ = 3 = 3
petals // ♦ = 4 = 4 corners.

Riffle up the deck like shown below and you’ll automatically stop at the short cards.
The cards under the 1st stop are ♠, under the 2nd stop ♥, under the 3rd stop and
under the 4th stop are ♦.

DISPLACEMENT
There are 2 displacements involved. The 1st Displacement is done twice and the
2nd displacement is done just once.

Below is how the grip over the deck needs to be during 1st displacement.

1ST :: The first displacement happens while pulling out the deck from the box. I
saw ASI WIND do something similar in one of his Performance videos on YouTube
– it was also an ACAAN.

2 ::
The second displacement happens while instructing the participant with
the dealing procedure.

PERFORMANCE

The following movements are for Right


handed person, i.e, the ones who hold
the deck in left hand.

If you’re a left handed person, just


mirror everything.

The performer opens the flap of the card box and


moves to his right side of the stage and asks an
audience member to call out a suit.

Next, the performer moves to the
opposite side of the stage, meanwhile
does the 1st displacement (of the suit).

Next, he asks another audience


member to THINK of a number between
1 & 50. (displacement of the suit can also be
done right when the performer is standing and
asking for a number)

Just after asking the audience member


to THINK of a number the performer,
re-boxes the deck, moves back and
gives the 1st participant a note pad and
a pen to jot down all the decisions.

He then moves to the center of the stage
and asks the 2nd person his / her number.

And later asks the 3rd participant a value.


Once he has it he asks the 1st participant to
come up on stage along with the notepad.

While the 1st participant is coming up, the 1st displacement (of the number) gets done.

Next, he demonstrates the counting process, the cards are counted by the first participant to the
number and voila you’ve your ACAAN.

CALCULATION OF DISPLACEMENT
ST
1 Displacement Calculation (done twice)
Calculation for the suit displacement is simple, riffle up until you reach the
desired suit value and then execute the displacement.

Calculation for the number displacement depends on the situation.

The called out number is 29 and the value is 5 The called out number is 25 and the value is 9

9 is higher than 5 (number is higher than value)– 5 is lower than 9 (number is lower than value)–
the next higher multiple of 10 for the number 29 the next lower multiple of 10 for the number 25
needs to be displaced, i.e 30 cards. needs to be displaced, i.e, 20 cards.

2ND Displacement Calculation (done once)
This is the main reason I have the decisions written because it is available right infront of
me and I don’t have to calculate anything.

The called out number is 29 and the value is 5 The called out number is 25 and the value is 9
(number is higher than value) (number is smaller than value)

You deal down cards and meanwhile calculate in You deal down cards and meanwhile calculate in
your head from the higher number. your head from the smaller number
(after 9 we get 0) 0,1,2,3,4,5 6, 7, 8, 9

in both the cases you deal down cards calculate until you reach the named value
and then do as shown in the video.
The 10th card gets placed to the side and later on top of the deck (see video 02:50 & 04:50)

In nut shell, if the number (2nd digit if it’s a 2 digit number) is higher than value, everything
happens from the higher number – the higher multiple of 10 gets displaced, you count as you deal
from the higher number to the lower number.

This is the number line (it moves in a circle) 0 -> 1 -> 2 -> 3 -> 4 -> 5 -> 6 -> 7 ->
8 -> 9 -> 0 and it only goes one way (watch arrow between the numbers).

Alternatively, if the number (2nd digit if it’s a 2 digit number) is lower than value, everything
happens from the lower number – the lower multiple of 10 gets displaced, you count as you deal
from the lower number to the higher number. (The same number line gets followed)

If you find you’ve too many cards to deal down and you don’t feel comfortable – you may start the
instructions midway of the displacement process and visually count / keep track of the cards. If the
cards are too many I pause right after 4th card and deliver a part of the instruction.

Script for the displacement process is – In a moment I’ll hand you the deck and when I do I
want you to deal down cards 1 by 1 cleanly on the table (pointing at the dealt down
spread), you may deal them on top of each other (collecting the spread into a pile), but do
not try dealing 2 at a time (here you may deal down 2 cards at a time) because chances
are that you’ll miss on the number. Once the number arrives place that card to the side
and the deck on the table and we’ll continue from there.
