CANON
PACHELBEL
For Four CellosCanon ..... PACHELBEL
Ashort note:
Iam most happy for you to have a copy of this work — how famous
it is! Firstly johnstone-music wishes to give credit to the Spanish-
Navarre cellist Javier Navascués Allués who has produced this
excellently playable version of the ‘Canon’, It is ideal for four solo cellos,
but it is also effective with cello ‘orchestra’.
You will notice that there are ONLY TWO SHEETS OF MUSIC ...
and this is no mistake! Remember that this is a canon; Cellos I, II, and
UL all play the SAME music, but Cello II enters four bars later than
Cello I - so that means Cello I plays bar 9 as Cello II plays bar 5. Cello
I enters four bars later on; when Cello 1 is at bar 13 and Cello Il at bar
9. The little corner signs (/— _ —1__) will clearly show each four bar
pattern at the beginning. And at the end, well the final pause notes
indicate which is the LAST note for each part. Believe us it’s all quite
easy really!
The Cello IV part repeats this same motive throughout ALL the
piece until the very end ...

Little by little crescendo
Bar 37 almost f
Bar 41 — alittle less
Bars 45 and 49 — each four bar group a little less

Bar 61- pp
Bar 69- p
Bar 77- mp
Bar 85- mf
Bar 97-f
The penultimate bar for each part with a slight diminuendo to a
long sustaining last note at m/. It perhaps should not have too much
softening of sound.
This is only an idea. Other solutions may be equally, or even more,
valid!
