Angles using a protractor

An angle is created when two lines meet at a common point. To measure an

angle, we measure the degree of turn between these two lines eg 90º, 45º.

Angles can measure from 0 to 360 degrees (a full circle).

We use protractors to measure angles.

Protractors usually have two sets of numbers going in opposite directions so you can
measure an angle from right to left or left to right.

How to draw an angle of a particular size eg 60º

60º

1. Draw a straight line.

2. Put the protractor on it so that the base line of the

protractor is over your line. The end of your line must
be at the middle of the protractor as shown. Here
we will measure from the right as the right hand side
of the protractor is on the line (see above). If the left
hand side of the protractor is on the line, measure
from the left.

3. Select the required angle and put a dot on the size

angle you need eg 60º.

4. Take the protractor off and rule a line from this dot
to the end of your line where the middle of the
protractor was.

5. You have now created an angle of 60º.
