Abstract

Away from the comforts of each home, most students are having a hard time because living alone without

the care of their parents. One of the most crucial part in living alone is budgeting or the act of calculating

if how much are you going to spent and where will you allocate your extra money. Students tend to be

problematic because of the requirements and project and because of their strict allowance. In this study,

it will show how the college students meet up with the challenge of budgeting. This paper focuses on how

will the students save for their printing budget. 2,050 Students will be given a specific amount that they

will use in printing their outputs. Of the 2,050 students, 550 responded and completed the survey (26.8%

response rate). Out of the 550 students, 374 were female (68%). This is slightly higher than the college

breakdown of 57% female. We found that females were more likely than males to create a monthly

budget. According to the unpublished research conducted by Quinn and Steiner (St. Norbert College,

2009) they also found that women reacted better to a budget imposition, further emphasizing that

women are more likely to follow a budget as well. As the study demonstrates, women were much better

planners and budgeters than males. Similarly, students became better budgeters and planners as they

matured. As a result, the college should start examining how they can better inculcate the younger male

population.
