Japanese Americans board buses for relocation
[National Archives]
Uncertain of the danger posed by Japanese Americans during World War II, President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued Executive Order No.
9066, authorizing a plan to remove Japanese Americans from the U.S. Western District and resettle them in detention camps further
inland. Here, evacuees of Japanese ancestry board buses headed for the Tanforan Assembly Center on April 29, 1942.
