INTRODUTION

Background and Objectives

The proponent, who plans to makeshift to financial planning, aims to produce an amount of
Php670,000.00 in a span of seven years. The money will be spent on a one-week Antarctic voyage which
will be very expensive considering that how remote the place is. Given that the proponent is still a student
in the first year of college, and assumed to have a proper job as a Civil Engineer after five years. The
proponent will only have 2 years to save Php 670,000.00. Currently studying Physics with a minor in
Finance, the proponent has a basic knowledge in strategic planning.

Assuming that the proponent will be given a stable job as a civil engineer with a starting salary of
Php 60,000.00 monthly, the proponent needs to raise Php 106,000.00. If the proponent will be budgeting
its money properly, the proponent will be able to raise Php 564,000.00.

This paper aims to help the proponent achieve its goal in saving money. The paper contains
different ways and different banks offering investments, savings account and time deposits.

Problem

Based on the information above, the expected monthly income of Php 60,000.00, will only be
earned after 5 years from now or the last two years of the total period. The expense of the one-week
Antarctic voyage is expected to reach Php 670,000.00, which includes airfare, cruise ticket, tours,
accommodation, daily food and other expenses. In order to achieve this goal, the proponent must be
responsible and should be strict in dealing with money. The proponent should also be smart in choosing the
best way in earning money.

Significance

This paper will give an insight on different choices in investing your money which will help achieve
your goal. This paper will also show you which is the best choice for your problem. This paper will also
help in monitoring cash flow. Moreover, this report will allow the proponent to examine different options
in different banks and will help the proponent choose the best option.

PLANS OF ACTION

Employing banks for their time deposits, money market and/or savings offers is a smart solution,
since it has a guaranteed return, in order to help us raise the amount of money needed to achieve our
financial goal. Investing your money through stocks is also another option if you know well how to
exchange stocks.

A research from three different banks is made to be able to differentiate and decide easily whether
which bank can help us reach our goal. The following information below are gathered from Bank of the
Philippine Islands, Banco de Oro and Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation.

I. Savings

Saving money has really been uncommon especially for teenagers without any financial goal
ahead of them. As for other teenagers, it is the other way around. Saving money is
something that should be done to have a secure future and also to limit ourselves from
buying things that is not really needed. Moreover, earning interest from our savings can be
achieved through the utilization of banks. The tables below show the rates from different
banks of regular savings, time deposits, and money market funds:

DATA ANALYSIS AND DISCUSSIONS

Time Deposit (Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation)

Time deposit gives the highest return than other bank offers and it is also less risky than investing
through stocks. Savings account is the most common and convenient way since you can withdraw money
anytime you want. Since time deposit gives the highest return amongst savings account and money
market fund, it is the recommended to apply for it.

Table 7.1. Net Interest Computations (Bank of the Philippine Islands)

Table 7.2. Net Interest Computations (Banco de Oro)

Table 7.3. Net Interest Computations (Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation)

Based on the tables above, Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation came out with the
highest interest of Php 9,067.69 amongst Bank of the Philippine Islands and Banco de Oro. Banco de Oro
and Bank of the Philippines resulted to a really low net interest, almost one-third of Rizal Commercial
Banking Corporation’s.
Bank Loan (Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation)

After the time deposit, to reach the financial goal the proponent must go through bank loaning.
After six years, the proponent will loan a total amount of Php 102,411.43 at the Rizal Commercial
Banking Corporation (RCBC). Loaning is the easiest way to borrow money but with interest.

To get the best offer, the proponent computed the interest from 3 different banks. Based on the
results below, Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation gives the best offer since it only has the least
amount of money to be paid monthly if the proponent chooses Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation
for the time deposit also.

Table 8.1. Bank Loans (Bank of the Philippine Island)

Table 8.2. Bank Loans (Banco de Oro)

Table 8.3. Bank Loans (Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation)

Based on the tables above, Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation has the lowest monthly
instalment of Php 2727.568 for 3 years or 36 months. Meanwhile, Banco de Oro has the highest monthly
instalment of Php 2881.762 which is almost the same as Bank of the Philippine Islands.

Other Discussion

The proponent should choose saving in banks because it is the most convenient way to do so. It is
also less risky than investing through stocks and bonds. It is also risky to start a new business since you
need a big capital and it’s not sure if you get your money back. It is also difficult to run a business if you
are a working professional at the same time. Investing in stocks and bonds can be risky also since you
have to be really familiar with the behaviour of each and every company or else you will not get a
positive result. Also, the Philippine economy is never stable and hard to predict since it will depend on
the government and business which also depends on the people.

That is why, the best way to increase your money is through the banks specifically the time
deposit of Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation.

SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION

Aiming to raise a total amount of Php 670,000.00 to achieve the personal goal which is to go on a
one-week Antarctic Voyage, this paper contains solutions and reasoning to help the proponent decide
properly.

After four years of studying and another 2 years of being a young, working professional, the
following steps will be taken in order to attain the amount of money to be raised:

1. Budget monthly income of Php 60,000.00 and save Php 23,500.00 monthly for two years.
2. Keep the monthly savings in Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation for two years as time
deposit that will earn an interests of Php 9067.69.
3. Loan Php 96,932.31 still in Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation to cover the remaining
amount of money needed. The amount borrowed and the interest from the bank loaning will be
paid using the monthly savings for 36 months.

In conclusion, with proper guidance and proper decision-making, the proponent can raise the exact
amount of money needed to be able to go an a one-week Antarctic Voyage or Php 670,000.00 six
years from now. Given that the proponent maintains a Php 23,500.00 monthly savings and a loan of
Php 96.932.31, the proponent will eventually reach the personal financial goal.
