Question: 1 how would you contribute to the 9th Model ASEM, in case you were

selected as a participant? Why should we choose you?* - 1500 words

If I were selected for 9th Model ASEM, I will prove myself an asset for the 9th Model ASEM.
I have skills in diplomacy, international relationships, and have ability to find solutions of
current and future world issues. Also the more knowledge about the global issues I get if I
could join this MUN division. Skills like diplomacy, negotiating, and lobbying are important
to use in International Relations student daily basic, therefore I am delighted to find the
opportunity if I can be a part 9th Model ASEM. I would like to appreciate if I could add more
my experience through organization program such as Model ASEM. It would develop my
special knowledge on working and managing myself in organization.
I believe if someday I could join in the real one Model United Nations, such as HMUN, Iwou
ld have more experience because I had my charge in MUN division. I have been part of I have
attended the Asia Youth Model United Nations conference – it’s for me and for many others is
an ideal platform that can scrap the fear of many brilliant minds and more appealing is
opportunity of addressing an assembly of about a thousand brilliant minds. That was my first
lesson: to push myself beyond the boundaries, getting the courage to speak what I believe.
The second thing that makes me an excellent fit for ASEM is my ability to negotiate
diplomatically and ability to work in Fund Raiser division. I choose this division because I am
present myself as fun, fresh, and creative person Fund Raiser division doesn’t only gain the
enjoyment of International Relations students but also contributes in improving each student
English skill. Through the games and the events that will be held by Fund Raiser division I am
sure it will add more creativity. The Malaysia Technical University has given me a chance to
get in touch with these subjects through global peace Ambassador (Malaysia) chapter under
Global Peace Chain. We try to build resilience, cultivate of tolerance, inclusivity, interfaith
harmony, co-existence and social peace building across the border through peace camps in
educational institutions, interactive sessions, peace talks with society stakeholders, diplomats,.
I really liked my project and I am keen to continue in it. I would like to use my stay in ASEM
for further developing my skills in empirical research. The possibilities that Model ASEM will
further expand those at my home university. I would take focus on debating, researching, and
diplomacy to heights.
If I were asked that question myself how I will become an asset for 9th Model ASEM MUN. I
found every desired skill for the position of delegate in me, and at first it just seemed like a fun
way of having a new experience. I soon realized that I am going to enjoy meeting people,
making speeches. I also got a rush out of winning awards and running conferences, and I
continued with MUN throughout high school.
Working as University of Teknologi, Malaysia (global bodies) as a volunteer, Worked as a
volunteer for a foundation named "JAAGO"(Bangladesh) which works on the several
sustainable development goals declared by UN but I mainly involved with the project
"Universal Children's Day". The awareness campaign was about children worldwide. We try
to deliver the message of child rights and the importance of quality education amongst the mass
on this day. Working through these volunteer position, I found that I had meaningful leadership
experiences to draw from, and a network of MUN alumni from whom I could seek guidance. 9th
Model ASEM will be beneficial for me to broaden my horizons to heights.
Looking back on my experience, these are my top 3 reasons for someone to do MUN:
1. It’s a fun way of learning about the world. In this era of globalization, being globally
aware is more important than ever. Also, having fun makes it easier to learn something
and more likely to stick.
2. It develops leadership skills. ASEM MUN is an exercise in research, public speaking,
diplomacy, international relations, and teamwork. These are skills that you will need
throughout your career, and ASEM MUN gives you a chance to practice them while
you are young mind
ASEM MUN is an ideal platform for me and for many others who are willing to work in
the global structured platform where they resolve international or local issues with their
sophisticated intelligence. I was a high school freshman when I attended my first Model
United Nations conference. It was fun, but overwhelming. Placards up, placards down,
making motions, making speeches, caucus bloc, voting bloc. There was so much going on
and I was running around trying to figure it all out. In the words of one advisor, it was like
learning how to swim by being thrown into the deep end of the pool. I was flailing around
in every direction, quickly going nowhere.
With coaching and experience, I slowly became a better delegate. I learned that my
performance in committee depended on certain fundamental skills. I identified what skills
I needed to work on and I practiced them during conferences and mock sessions. As my
skills improved, I figured out how to win awards consistently. I also used these skills in
other areas of my high school career, particularly public speaking competitions. And I
continued to use these skills in college and the workplace.
I was able to do good research to build up foundation of committee performance. It makes
you feel confident talking about complex issues. It sounds great when you know what
you’re talking about, which helps you become a leader in committee.
Making great speeches helps you get noticed by other delegates and the chair. If you frame
the topic correctly, others will remember what you’ve said and refer back to it in their own
speeches. Public speaking is also a critical skill that you will use outside of MUN, whether
it’s explaining something to your class or making a presentation in front of your co-
workers.
This skill is not as obvious as research or public speaking, but it is crucial to your success
in committee. When you are in unmoderated caucus, meeting people and finding others
you can work with, you are essentially building a team. Your team, also known as a caucus
bloc or an alliance, needs to work together to write resolutions and get them passed. Being
a leader on your team also helps you become a leader in committee and in the eyes of your
chair.

During unmoderated caucus, most delegates try to build a team by talking about their own
policies and solutions. However, I actually think it is more important to ask others what they
think and get their input. That is how you find people who share the same policies and solutions
and who can be on the same team. So talk less, and listen more.
Writing resolutions is where real work gets done, and it’s also the most difficult part of
committee. Drafting a well-written resolution does not mean just writing down your ideas. It
means listening to the ideas of everyone in your caucus bloc and finding common ground.
The key to a well-written resolution is organizing your caucus bloc’s proposed solutions. If
you have a good framework for your topic, start with the most important issue and write down
the solutions that are most relevant to that issue.
Once draft resolutions are circulated, you need to defend your resolution against criticism and
convince others to pass it. You need to point out the strengths in your resolution and find
weaknesses in opposing resolutions.
Approach groups of delegates and ask for their thoughts about your resolution. Try to find out
what would get them to vote for your resolution. This might mean proposing amendments, so
long as they don’t contradict the original intent of your resolution or alienate anyone in your
caucus bloc.
Learning these skills from MUNS experience helped me to become a leader in committee and
win awards. It also helps me identify what I want to work on during conferences and practice
sessions. And most importantly, these are the core leadership skills that MUN has taught me,
which i will using throughout your academic and professional careers.
Most committees want at least one main chair who is very experienced and can manage the
room well. For advanced rooms, the conference may want two strong chairs and a strong vice
chair. International Court of Justice or International Criminal Court positions generally want
delegates with experience in those committees, or law students. The same goes for crisis
committees.
I have attended one summer school named "Asia Institute for politicatical economy" with full
scholarship by University of Honkong collaborated by George Mason University, that has
enabled me to gain skills in leadership, public speaking, and diplomacy, resolving international
issues. These all above described attributes makes me uniquely fit to contribute to 9th Model
ASEM.
Question: 2 if any, tell us about your previous experience with Model UN/EU/ASEAN,
Public Speaking, Debate Clubs, other simulations, etc. 500 words
From very beginning, I identified public speaking as something I am good at. I love talking to
people in large gathering helping them, addressing their sophisticated issues. Model United
Nation has opened so many exciting opportunities and groomed me personally as well as
professionally. I have attended the Asia Youth Model United Nations conference – it’s for me
and for many others is an ideal platform that can scrap the fear of many brilliant minds and
more appealing is opportunity of addressing an assembly of about a thousand brilliant minds.
That was my first lesson: to push myself beyond the boundaries, getting the courage to speak
what I believe.
Model UN develop public speaking and leadership skills among the delegates. Experiencing
public speaking and working hard to climb up the ladder to reach the position I am in currently
(a member of the Executive Committee) this journey has taught me some valuable lessons, the
importance of perseverance and hard work. Getting a chance to debate on worldly issues as a
delegate boosted my problem - solving ability and negotiation skills. It also increased my
intellectual level; as often the delegates have to come up with an innovative solution of some
serious world issues. Thinking together, working together brought me to next level: teamwork.
Teamwork is essentially important for success of any MUN, and MUN helped me to work on
this attribute to great depth.
The friends and numerous connections you make along the way are arguably the most
important reason for you to take part in a MUN program. All in all, MUN is definitely worth
every moment you invest the rewards you get from any MUN helps you in life run.
The person who come back from attending an international MUN is totally different and much
more learned person. Yes, that’s why the MUNs for designed for. On one hand they boost up
your knowledge about current issues and you get to know solutions of some complicated world
problems, it broadens one’s horizons of thinking, takes you to the next level of creativity,
makes you aware about how rapidly world is progressing and encourages you to contribute
your part. While on the other hand living at a new place, among strangers that will soon become
your good friends, you learn self-reliance. You grow as a person. You understand that you are
a lot more capable to stand in front of the world, earn your place and recognition all on your
own without any help, and you couldn’t have imagined yourself doing this otherwise!
I am currently working as Global Peace Ambassador, Malaysia chapter under Global Peace
Chain. We try to build resilience, cultivate of tolerance, inclusivity, interfaith harmony, co-
existence and social peace building across the border through peace camps in educational
institutions, interactive sessions, peace talks with society stakeholders, diplomats,
ambassadors, influential community groups, UN officials and community based organization
across the globe through different channels of communication by addressing in public
gathering. These issues are well-discussed in public gatherings, debates, and conferences.

The grand finale: Student participants will present a summary of the project’s outcomes to the
ASEM Foreign Ministers at the Opening Ceremony of the ASEMFMM14.
Multilateralism: lies at the heart of Europe foreign policy, but it is being noticed that in recent
years the European Countries disagree among themselves. The US, China, and Russia have
each sought to challenge or disrupt the existing, post-1945 world order; and each seeks to
divide Europeans from one another.
A year ago, the ASEM summit in Brussels united all political figures from the European Union
(EU) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to advance discourse and
participation between partners from Asia and Europe. Together, ASEM ambassadors speak to
55 percent of worldwide exchange, 60 percent of the total populace, and 65 percent of
worldwide Gross Domestic Product (GDP), as indicated by insights from the association.
Under the title "Europe and Asia: Global Partners for Global Challenges," the two-day summit
approached greater availability among Europe and Asia, and demonstrated leadership'
excitement to fabricate solid multilateral associations.
ASEM leaders focused on the need to further fortify and change the association to enable it to
address new difficulties and improve its working. They likewise featured the significance of
deeper economic integration both at the local and global level.
The Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) is the most noteworthy stage for Asia-Europe discourse.
All things considered, it could assume a substantive job in encouraging collaboration among
the nations of the two continents. It could likewise empower them to assume a solid job in
worldwide legislative issues rocked by difficulties from Donald Trump's America.
Set up in 1996, ASEM works as a casual between legislative discourse stages. Through five
rounds of extension, it has enlisted a two-overlay increment in enrolment, from 26 of every
1996 to 53 of every 2018. This additionally incorporates two territorial associations, the Asean
(Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Secretariat and the European Commission. Asia has
maintained strong relationship with 21 nations, including its conspicuous major and center
powers, for example, China, India, Russia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, and South Korea.
ASEM's potential lies in the way that it includes 60% of the total populace, the greater part of
worldwide exchange, and around 66% of worldwide total national output. In addition, it
comprises of four United Nations Security Council individuals, all BRICS individuals with the
exception of South Africa, and 12 of the G20 part states. Be that as it may, a lot of this is yet
to be converted into genuine quality.
Moreover, continuous moves in worldwide power and geo-financial aspects, and spasms in the
liberal international order, make ASEM progressively pertinent. Europe has been a noteworthy
partner in Asian development. For one, the EU is one of the greatest exchange and speculation
partner of ASEAN, India and China. It is the biggest source of foreign direct investment in
both India and ASEAN.
Both Asia and Europe are careful about the vulnerabilities being made by the US. Rising
protectionist strategies, withdrawal from the Paris Agreement on climate change and Trump's
negligence for multilateral discourse present critical basic difficulties. While China is the
principle focus of the Trump organization's exchange duties, the EU, Japan and India are
helpless too.
Progressively frustrated by the Trump organization, post-Brexit EU is probably going to be
increasingly centered on Asia. Ongoing patterns demonstrate that it is quick to be progressively
coordinated with Asian development. Significant European nations, for example, France and
Germany are getting progressively associated with Asian security elements as well.
For Delhi, relations with both China and the US have been a tightrope walk. China's Belt and
Road activity (BRI) and Trump's duty hindrances and H-1B visa issue are prime territories of
worry for India. In that unique situation, more noteworthy collaboration with the EU and Asian
forces could open up new vistas of participation. Indeed, even on basic key issues with
monetary implications, for example, Iran, India, China, and the EU are generally in agreement.
ASEM nations should discover shared opinion on exchange progression and decrease of duty
and non-tax obstructions, in addition to other things.

Asia-Europe availability is another key issue. The EU has as of late discharged an arrangement
record on cultivating physical, financial, advanced, and individuals to-individuals availability
among Asia and Europe. Arranged by the European Commission, the record, Connecting
Europe and Asia: Building obstructs for an EU methodology, stresses the requirement for
"practical, far reaching and principles based availability" to improve "success, security and
versatility of individuals and social orders in Europe and Asia". In the event that the EU can
move towards operationalizing these standards, it will have huge economic upsides.
This network plan is seen by numerous individuals as a reaction to China's multi-billion-dollar
BRI venture. Significant Asian partners have just propelled their very own choices—to shifting
degrees—to BRI. Not with standing their individual availability and effort activities, Japan
(Partnership for Quality Investment) and India (Sagarmala) are cooperating on the Asia-Africa
Growth Corridor for between provincial networks. With Australia and the US, the two are
likewise chipping away at Indo-Pacific availability. In this unique circumstance, the EU was
prominent by its nonappearance. Hence, this arrangement is a decent move, regardless of
whether it has come about more gradually than it ought to have.

The EU technique is a hint of something better over the horizon for Asian nations which have
been searching for a standard based and straightforward multilateral collaboration instrument
that can yield quality speculations for more noteworthy intra-territorial, provincial, and
between local networks. It will likewise be intriguing to perceive what effect the EU's support
could have on the way wherein China is actualizing the BRI.

The majority of this, in any case, accompanies provisos. Europe is confronting a rising tide of
patriotism over its part states. Brexit is the clearest side effect, and a problematic one, yet there
are numerous others. Concerning ASEAN, its solidarity is being tested by extending inward
cracks. These could demonstrate to be huge hindrances.

ASEM could assume a key job in expediting Asian and European nations closer a scope of
issues. This is huge when the US is upsetting the additions of globalization. Be that as it may,
this will require political will in Asia and Europe to back multilateralism and facilitated
commerce.
And that conclude my discussion for today. I hope you have had cleared all your questions
related to ASEM Thank you all for being here have a good day.
