The War of the Roses lasted from 1455 to 1485. It was a struggle for the throne

between two noble families, the House of York (signified with a white rose) and the

House of Lancaster (represented with a red rose). At the beginning of the war, Henry

VI was King.

The first battle took place in the year 1455 at St. Albans.

The war ended in the year 1485 at Bosworth. It was won by the Lancaster___

family. Henry VII became the new king, married Elizabeth from the opposing family,

and formed the House of Tudor, represented with a red and white rose. The family

ruled England for the next 116 years.

King Henry VII’s son, Henry VIII, was the next ruler, and became one

of the most important kings in English history. He broke from the Catholic Church

and became the head of the Church of England. He ruled from 1509 to 1547.
