Gender inequality

For you to find someone who did not believe that equality between sexes was a critical objective

then you would be hard pressed. Here in the United States, there is a lot of work to do prior to

achieving this objective. According to Anne Marie slaughter, asked whether we are using the

correct platform when trying to explain what equality is all about. In her Ted talk of January

2013, Marie explained what equality means. She also explained the ways in which the United

States is handling the issue in the wrong way. Although equality in the workplace is considered

to be very important Marie argued that this is only about half of the conversation. Marie claimed

that in order for a full gender equality to be achieved there is the need for the breadwinners and

caregivers to be valued in an equivalent manner. She suggested that real equality does not mean

using male terms to value women but rather it means that a much wide range of equally

respected choices for both women and men should be created. In her talk, she made it clear that

the family and work problems are not separate issues divided by gender. According to her, it

does not mean that if family come first work follows it means that in life both come together.

Women should be aware that their place is not only found at home. They should open up other

choices as well as opportunities in their life. On the contrary, the mentality that men are the

breadwinners in the most family has not changed and this, therefore, cats as a barrier when

advancing equality in gender. A real equality means that the work of women should be

recognized and considered to be as important as that of men.
