INTRODUCTION

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Negros Occidental Province is situated in the west and north of Negros Island, neighboring
Visayan Sea in the north, Tanon Strait and Negros Oriental Province in the east, Panay Gulf and
Guimaras Strait in the west and Sulu Sea in the south. As the 7th largest province in the
country,also Negros Occidental has a population of 2,565,723 which is 8th place out of 81
area.Aside from being 8th place of population, Negros occidental was also one of the province
who has average amount of dengue cases.

Negros occidental was known for its dengue cases that have reached 4,230 from January 1to
20 this 2019,43 percent more than last year which is 2,948 during the same period. In 2019 last
survey of dengue cases in different city’s in negros occidental province is the following: Others
in the top 10 are Bago City, with 337, including one death; San Carlos City, 310, with two deaths;
Cauayan, 247, with two deaths; Himamaylan City, 242, with two deaths; Cadiz City, 211, with
four deaths; Sagay City, 183, one death; Silay City, 182; Talisay City, 173; and Murcia, 160, one
death.This survey show a rampant dengue cases in different city’s.which we are focus in Talisay
City which having 173 dengue cases in 2019,but last 2016 it showed that dengue cases in 2019
was lower than 2016 which has 564 dengue cases

This research is focus on minimizing or eradicating mosquito. The study also focuses on how
to make organic insecticides against mosquito. Thus, the researcher will be using sunflower
leaves(helianthus annuus) as the main ingredient because of its own properties which are
repellent, this statement is supported by this study.Anti-Malarial / Repellent: The aqueous and
methanolic extracts had 50% and 74% clearing of parasites respectively, compared to 100% for
chloroquine, more effective when administered at the onset of infection, suggesting a
time-dependency of the anti-malarial effects. On mosquitocidal repellency, although the volatile
oil extract showed higher repellent effect on Anapholes gambiae, its repellent and protective
effects on all the other species of mosquito can not be underestimated.The weakness of this
research to the researcher is the material which we are using as the main material sunflower

The researcher will use sunflower leaves (helianthus annuus) as potential organic insecticides
against mosquito.This research can consider not hazardous and not dangerous.This research will
used to help minimize mosquito and dengue cases.The researcher will test the effectiveness of
sunflower leaves (helianthus annus) and other insecticides against mosquito.
