ABSTRACT
The common industrial by products which used to replace the cement are Ground granulated
blast furnace slag (GGBFS) sub-product from steel fabrication, fly ash, silica fume, calcine
clay, limestone, and rice husk ash etc. The present study on replacement of cement by Rice
husk ash (RHA).
Paper 1: these paper explain useful results obtained by the replacement of cement partially with
rice husk ash (RHA) in 5 mix proportion that are 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%. Along with 10%
additional silica fume to be compared with 100% Portland cement. Compressive strength and
durability properties increases by 20% with replacement of 15% to 20%. Beyond replacement
the strength slightly decreases by 4.5% and also water absorption, and chloride ion penetration
increases.
Paper 2: the study explains and compared the results obtained from the replacement of cement
partially by low and high carbon (RHA) individually added to the cement and sand which are
in proportion of 1:5 for the preparation of cement blocks. Experiment conducted by preparing
four different levels of replacement such as 20%, 15%. 10% 5% of low carbon (RHA) and high
carbon (RHA) as partial replacement of cement. The test results shows the strength
(compressive , flexural, split) and durability properties(such as water absorption, acid attack
chloride attack and alkaline attack), and workability(water/binder ration, setting time) of
cement blocks with low carbon RHA shows good results. In point of environment and
economic we can encourage high carbon (RHA) such as cement block preparation.
Paper 3: these paper study the replacement of cement partially with (RHA) . it observe that
the water demand increases and up to 10% replacement increase the strength compared to
Portland cement and also good resistance against sulphate ,chloride attack as well as good
shrinkage properties . however the bending and shear properties of RC slab and beams with
RHA need to be covered .
Paper 4 : the paper aims to replace OPC with metakaolin (MKL), and RHA to study the
thermal pozzalanic activity and microstructure of blended cement .
