EFFECT OF ARCHITECTURE ON SUCCESS OF SLUM REHABILITATION

Overview

Informal settlements or slums are the serious and very common concerns the third world
countries like India. Those spaces are generally getting neglected. And there appears to be
no proper solution for the eradicate slums. The motive of the study is to understand need
and approaches to rehabilitate the slums. And to understand the internal and external
factors which affect the success and failure rehabilitation programs. In order to study those
factors case studies will be conducted. And at the end study the effect of architecture on
success on Slum Rehabilitation projects.

Objectives
1. To define Urban poor / Slum through secondary sources.
2. To explore the issues in existing slums of people living there.
3. To understand the need of Rehabilitation.
4. To understand policies regarding the Slum rehabilitations programs.
5. To find out types and process of slum rehabilitation programs.
6. To undertake the case representing different types of slums.
7. To understand the internal and external factors affecting success of Slum
rehabilitation projects.
8. Effect of architecture on success / failure on Slum Up gradation / Rehabilitation
projects.

Limitations

1. Only one type of slum rehabilitation program will be studied further.

2. Other external and internal factors than architectural factors shall not be considered.
