Teleological Approaches There are three approaches to assessing outcomes and whether they are

viewed as ethical. First, ethical egoism describes the actions of leaders that are designed to obtain the
greatest good for the leader. Second, utilitarianism refers to the actions of leaders that are designed to
obtain the greatest good for the largest number of people. Third, altruism describes the actions of
leaders that are designed to demonstrate concern for others’ interests, even if these interests are
contrary to the leader’s self-interests.
