Methane is a chemical compound of ultimate hydrocarbon with the chemical formula


CH4 (one atom of carbon and four atoms of hydrogen).

Under normal conditions for temperature and pressure it is a colorless, odorless gas .

Methane's heat of combustion is 55.5 MJ/kg. Combustion of methane is a multiple step


reaction summarized as follows:

CH4 + 2O2 → CO2 + 2H2O


Methane is non-toxic and harmless to human health.

LNG – Liquefied Natural Gas
LNG is Methane 85% cooled down to liquid form for ease and safety of non-
pressurized storage and transport.

It takes up about 1/600th the volume of natural gas in the gaseous state.

The natural gas is condensed into a liquid at close to atmospheric pressure by


cooling it to approximately −162 °C (−260 °F); maximum transport pressure is set at
around 25 kPa (4 psi).

LNG's relatively high cost of production and the need to store it in expensive
cryogenic tanks have hindered widespread commercial use.

Despite these drawbacks, LNG usage is expected to hit 10% growth by 2020

LADA VESTA CNG components

Gas cylinder is made from composite material with operating pressure up to 250 ATM is located
behind the rear seat back rest and equipped with a built-in high-speed safety valves, excluding
possibility of cylinder rupture and uncontrolled gas output in case of failure of gas pipelines.

Gas filling device is located on the right side of the car in the hatch near the neck of the petrol
fuel tank.

The fuel supply system uses a phased fuel injection with variable induction system for 4 gas and
4 petrol injectors.

The engine always starts with petrol followed by automatic switching for gas. In case the gas in
the cylinder ends, there is an automatic transfer of engine fuel feeding to gasoline (car has not
only gas cylinder equipment but standard 55-litergas petrol tank as well)

It is also possible to switch manually the "gas/gasoline“ mode.
