According to the 2010 national census, the Philippines has around 1.44 million Filipinos have some form of disability. Different advocates and social groups in the Philippines have actively pushing for refinements in the field of infrastructure accessibility, health and education for the people with disabilities. The law Batas Pambansa Blg. 344 or also known as Accessibility Law is an act requiring buildings, institutions, and establishments to install some facilities such as ramps and railings for PWD’s. An establishment’s ramps with a proper dimension make it easier for PWD’s to access buildings. Though in some cases, this is the only accessibility feauture present in an establishment. The National Council for Disability Affairs is the government agency that audits the accessibility for the PWD’s of an establishment in compliance with the requirements of the Accessibility Law. If an establishment do not comply to the specific requirements of the law, violations are strictly given to them. These violations are composed of a penalty of P50,000 but not over P100,000, or 6 months imprisonment, or both at the discretion of the court.
