A Detailed Lesson Plan in
Mathematics (Grade 7)
I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the 60-minute period, 90% of the students should be able to:
a. Evaluate alternative problem solving strategies and solutions of linear equation using addition or
subtraction.
b. Active participation in solving problems involving equations by using addition or subtraction
c. Ability to perform skills by following the instructions.
III. PROCEDURE
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITY
1) Prayer
May we all stand class, to feel the presence of
the Lord?
Anne, kindly lead us a prayer. (In the name of the Father, the Son and the
Holy Spirit, Amen.)
2) Greetings
Good Morning Class! Good Morning Ma’am.
3) Checking of Attendance
Exactly!
And what are the Steps in solving square of a
binomial? Step 1: The first term of the product is always
the square of the first term in the binomial.
Anyone? Yes Kaizer
Step 2: The middle term of the product is
always twice the product of the two first term
of the product is always the square of the last
term in the binomial
Very good!
Very Good!
Is it clear class?
Yes Ma’am.
B. MOTIVATION
Before we start our discussion let us
explore.
“PASS the RIDDLE”
The group who got the correct answer
will have a score that add to their
Recitation.
It is clear class?
Yes ma’am!
ANSWER:
7 (Seven; S = even)
Well done class! Congratulations to all of you,
especially to the group who win in this game.
Now you may go to your proper seat and listen
to our topic.
(Students arrange their chairs and seat
properly)
C. LESSON PROPER
Today, we are going to discuss on how to
“solve equation using addition or
subtraction”.
Class, Try to explore and solve the equation on
your paper. After three (3) minutes I will show
it to. Yes ma’am
Use the numbers 2,3,4, and 5 and the symbols
+ and = make a true equation.
X + 7 = 12
This is how to solve the equation,
The equation is formed by starting with the
variable, x, adding 7, and then getting 12.
To solve the equation, the steps in the flow
chart can be reversed.
12-7=X
5=X
Solution is 5.
Understand class?
Yes ma’am
X 26
-9 +9

Solve:
2. a+12= 53 STUDENTS SOLUTION
3. b-18 = 30
4. c+25= 62
2. a+12= 53 53-12= 41
3. b-18= 30 30+18= 48
4. c+25= 62 62-25= 37
Very good! Let’s have five (5) claps
five (5) stumps and say AHA!
(The students do the AHA! Clap)

Addition and Subtraction
are inverse operations.
D. APPLICATION
Class; try to solve each using algebra tiles.
a. x + 3 = 5 b. x - 2 = 6
a. Use algebra tiles to model the equation.
+ + + + a. Remove three + tiles from both
+ =
+ sides.
+ + + =
+ + +
x+3=5 X + 3 -3 = 5 - 3
b. Use algebra tiles to model the equation. X= 2
+ - + + + The solution is 2
=
- + +
b. Add 2 + -tiles to both sides. Then
remove two pairs of zero tiles.
a. x - 2 = 6
+ + - = + + + +
+ - + + + +
X–2+2=6+2
x=8
The solution is 8
E. GENERALIZATION
Subtraction equation – It can be solved by
Let’s have a recap class!
adding the same number on each side of the
What is Addition Equation again class? equation.
Yes Martin
Very good!
Brianna can you define Subtraction Equation?
Excellent!
1st and 2nd row recite the process of addition
equation.
IV. ASSESSMENT
A B
1. x + 3 = -6 a. 14
2. -7 + x = -10 b. -14
3. x +12 = 7 c. -5
4. x - 2.5 = 4 d. -9
5. a + 12 = 26 e. -3
6. b + 30 = 16 f. 11
7. -8 + c = -5 g. 6.5
8. d - 15 = -4 h. 3
V. ASSIGNMENT
A. Solve each using algebra tiles.
1. x+4=9
2. x + 3 = -2
3. 3. x + 8 = 2
4. 4. x - 3 = 8
5. 5. x - 2 = 2
1. b + 10 = -14
2. c – 11 = 15
3. d + (-16) = 8
4. e – (-15) = -6
5. 3(f-4) = 2f + 3
