III. PROCEDURE
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITY

1) Prayer
May we all stand class, to feel the presence of
the Lord?
Anne, kindly lead us a prayer. (In the name of the Father, the Son and the
Holy Spirit, Amen.)

2) Greetings
Good Morning Class! Good Morning Ma’am.

Before you take your sit, please arrange

your chairs and pick up those litters around (The students arrange their chairs)
you.
Then you may now take your sit.
Thank you Ma’am

3) Checking of Attendance

Is everybody present? Yes Ma’am.

That’s good to hear!
4) Review

Class, last time we discussed about?

Square of a binomial.
What is Square of a binomial again class?
Yes Martin
The square of a binomial is the square of the
first term plus (or minus) twice the product of
the two terms plus the square of the last term.
Very good!
Brianna can you define trinomial? Trinomials of the form
𝑥 2 + 2𝑥𝑦 + 𝑦 2 𝑜𝑟 𝑥 2 − 2𝑥𝑦 + 𝑦 2
Are called perfect square trinomials because
each is the result after squaring a binomial.

Exactly!
And what are the Steps in solving square of a
binomial? Step 1: The first term of the product is always
the square of the first term in the binomial.
Anyone? Yes Kaizer
Step 2: The middle term of the product is
always twice the product of the two first term
of the product is always the square of the last
term in the binomial

Very good!

Who can answer this one,

(The students raise up their hand)
(5x + 4)2

Yes, Sujiro you may now write your

answer on the blackboard. (5𝑥 + 4)2
= (5𝑥)2 + 2(5𝑥)(4) + (4)2
= 25𝑥 2 + 40𝑥 + 16

Very Good!
Is it clear class?
Yes Ma’am.

It seems that you are now ready to proceed to

our next lesson.
But before that, let’s have a game first.

B. MOTIVATION
Before we start our discussion let us
explore.
“PASS the RIDDLE”
The group who got the correct answer
will have a score that add to their
Recitation.

Mechanics of the game:

1. Group your selves into 5 then full in
line.
2. The leader will on the front and the
messenger will be in last: and
3. Except the leader all members are
turn back, if the leader touch your
shoulder it means you will turn in
front of him/her to know the riddle
until the riddle will pass to the
messenger with a correct answer.
4. The messenger should type his/her
answer to the computer and so that
everybody see the answer if it is
correct.

It is clear class?
Yes ma’am!

Are you ready?

Yes we are!

Let’s start the game, Leaders read the riddle in

the screen.
“I AM AN ODD NUMBER, TAKE AWAY
AN ALPHABET AND I BECOME EVEN.
WHAT NUMBER AM I?”
(The class do the activity)

ANSWER:
7 (Seven; S = even)
Well done class! Congratulations to all of you,
especially to the group who win in this game.
Now you may go to your proper seat and listen
to our topic.
(Students arrange their chairs and seat
properly)
C. LESSON PROPER
Today, we are going to discuss on how to
“solve equation using addition or
subtraction”.
Class, Try to explore and solve the equation on
your paper. After three (3) minutes I will show
it to. Yes ma’am
Use the numbers 2,3,4, and 5 and the symbols
+ and = make a true equation.

Are you done?

Yes we are.
See your works if it is the same.
2 +5 = 3 +4
All of you got the correct answer?
Yes ma’am
Let’s start to solve the equation.

X + 7 = 12
This is how to solve the equation,
The equation is formed by starting with the
variable, x, adding 7, and then getting 12.
To solve the equation, the steps in the flow
chart can be reversed.
12-7=X
5=X
Solution is 5.
Understand class?
Yes ma’am

I have another example, after I solve this you

need to answer the following problem.
Yes ma’am
Fill in both flow charts for each equation. Use
the steps in the inverse flow chart to find the
value of the variable.
Example 1. X-9=17 Solution: 26

X 26

-9 +9

17 17

Solve:
2. a+12= 53 STUDENTS SOLUTION
3. b-18 = 30
4. c+25= 62

2. a+12= 53  53-12= 41
3. b-18= 30  30+18= 48

4. c+25= 62  62-25= 37
Very good! Let’s have five (5) claps
five (5) stumps and say AHA!
(The students do the AHA! Clap)

Class! In algebra, there are operations

that “undo” each other, such as addition
and subtraction. For example, if you
start with 8 and add 6, you can get back
to 8 by subtracting 6.

+ 6
8 =

= 14
6 -
Addition and Subtraction
are inverse operations.

(the teacher explain the topic of

Addition and subtraction equation) (The students listen to the lesson)

Any clarification class? None ma’am.

Before we solve equation algebraically, I have

here problem solving tip;
A. Addition Property of equality
Adding the same number on each side
of an equation produces a new equation
having the same solution as the
original.
x–ax–a+a=b+a

B. Subtraction Property of equation

Subtracting the same number from each
side of an equation produces a new
equation having the same solution as
the original.
x+a=bx+a–a=b–a

D. APPLICATION
Class; try to solve each using algebra tiles.
a. x + 3 = 5 b. x - 2 = 6
a. Use algebra tiles to model the equation.
+ + + + a. Remove three + tiles from both
+ =
+ sides.
+ + + =
+ + +
x+3=5 X + 3 -3 = 5 - 3
b. Use algebra tiles to model the equation. X= 2

+ - + + + The solution is 2
=
- + +
b. Add 2 + -tiles to both sides. Then
remove two pairs of zero tiles.
a. x - 2 = 6
+ + - = + + + +
+ - + + + +
X–2+2=6+2

You may now answer your activity; The first + + + +

+
five who got the correct answer has a surprise. =
+ + + +

x=8
The solution is 8

An equation involving the sum of a number

and a variable.

It is an equation involving the difference

between a variable and a number.
CONGRATULATIONS! Addition equation – It can be solved by
subtracting the same number from each side of

one side of the equation.

E. GENERALIZATION
Subtraction equation – It can be solved by
Let’s have a recap class!
adding the same number on each side of the
What is Addition Equation again class? equation.
Yes Martin

Very good!
Brianna can you define Subtraction Equation?

Excellent!
1st and 2nd row recite the process of addition
equation.

3rd and 4th row recite the process of subtraction

equation.

Very good everybody!

All of you are very attentive.
