Definition of Terms
In order to have an easy and better understanding for the readers, the researchers define the
following terminologies according to how it is used in this research:

Anorexia Nervosa is an eating disorder and psychological condition marked by extreme


self-starvation due to a distorted body image.
Binge-eating disorder is marked by recurrent episodes of extreme overeating not
accompanied by compensatory behavior.
Body checking involves obsessive, intrusive thoughts and behaviors about body shape and
size.
Body image is the mental representation an individual creates of themselves.
Bulimia Nervosa is an eating disorder marked by frequent cycles of binge-eating excessive
amounts of food, followed by purging.
Eating Disorder is defined as any of a range of psychological disorders characterized by
abnormal or disturbed eating habits.
Fear Foods are foods that the eating disordered person believes will lead to rapid and
significant weight gain, even in small amounts.
Food restriction involves eating fewer calories than the body needs to maintain weight
and/or adequate growth.
Mental Illness is a behavioral or mental pattern that causes significant distress or
impairment of personal functioning.
Pica is a condition characterized by the eating of one or more nonnutritive, nonfood
substances on a regular basis, such as paper, soap, or hair.
Purging is the use of self-induced vomiting, laxatives, and diuretics after eating in order to
prevent weight gain and relieve anxiety.
