Projection

a. POSTERO ANTERIOR (PA)

 Projection where the direction of X-rays from dorsal (back) to ventral (front) / patient position back
toward X-ray
 This position can be erect / prone

b. ANTERO POSTERIOR (AP)

 Projection where the direction of X-rays from ventral (front) to dorsal (back) / patient position facing
X-ray direction
 This position can be done erect / supine

c. LATERAL
Lateral (lat`er-al) position
Refers to deside of, or aside view.
Specific lateral positions described by the part closest to de IR, or that body part from wich
CR exits . A true lateral position will always be 90 , or perpendicular , or at a right angle , to a
true AP or PA projection. If it is not a true lateraal , it is an oblique position .
d. OBLIQUE
Antero posterior oblique
These can also be referred to as AP oblique projections because the CR enters an anterior
surface and exits posteriorly . this, homever, is not a complete description and also requires
a specific position clarifier such as LPO or RPO position. Therefore throughtout this text
these body obliques will be referred to as position and not projection.

Posterio anterior oblique

Refers to those oblique positions in whice the the right or left anterior aspect of the body is
closest to the IR and can be erect or recumbent general body positions
Note: these can also be described as PA oblique projections if a position clarifier is added ,
such as an RAO or LAO position .
