This table gives the assignment instructions.

Students choose TWO COUNTRIES from the Families Of The World Video Series to
watch. Videos are located in MODULES. Each video highlights TWO families from the
SAME country.
After watching video of both of the chosen countries, students will answer the two
following questions based their thoughts and understanding of connections from the book
chapters and the content of the videos.

Q1: Compare and contrast all four families in regard to the content we have learned from our
readings in Chapters 6,7, 8 & 11. You do not have to touch on ALL of these topics - Write what
best fits the families you "meet" in the videos YOU CHOOSE. (Topic examples
include: Family Goals, Values and Cultural Patterns (independence/
interdependence), Family Guidance Strategies, Gender roleexpectations and Socialization in
their Community.) (Remember there are two families from each country and you are
watching two countries - therefore you have four families to compare and contrast all
together). Include specific examples with terms and concepts from our book to support
your claims. Minimum 400 words.

Q2: Choose ONE family from either of the videos you viewed.
Describe their family context through the lens of Ecological Theory
(Bronfenbrenner) and/or Family Systems Theory. (See chapter 1 from Gonzales-Mena).
You will be analyzing the family and their society context based on what you see in the video.
You will be using the framework of the theories to write your response. The answer will
demonstrate your understanding of applying the theory to a family other than your own (as you
did in chapter 1 mini-assignment).
You may have to make a 'best guess' as some of the videos present a limited view. This is OK
for our beginning practice of applying theory to context. Minimum 400 words.
