I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
A. state the converse of the Corresponding angle Postulate, Alternate
Interior/Exterior Angle Theorem and Same-side Interior/Exterior Angle Theorem ;
B. prove if the given lines are parallel or not;
C. relate the properties of the parallel lines in proving.
II. Subject Matter
Topic: PARALLEL AND PERPENDICULAR LINES
Sub-topic: Proving Parallel lines

Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

III. Procedure

A. Routine
1. Greetings
2. Prayer
3. Checking of Attendance

B. Motivation
(Game: Hanggaroo)
The class will be divided into 3 groups. Students should arrange the letters.
The first group who can finish the task will be the winner.

C. Presentation

 What is the longest word did Converse

you formed?
 Yes, very good so today we
will focus on the converse
statements of the
Corresponding angle
Postulate, Alternate
Interior/Exterior Angle
Theorem and Same-side
Interior/Exterior Angle
Theorem
 But first of all, what do we Opposite/ reversed
mean by converse?
 Yes it is the opposite or
reversed statements of the
said postulate and theorems
D. Development of the Lesson

Converse of the Corresponding Angle Postulate:

If two coplanar lines cut by a transversal so that the pair of corresponding
angles are congruent, then the two lines are parallel.
 Which figure satisfy the Fig.2
statement?
1 1
2 2

Fig. 1 Fig. 2
 Why is it the fig.2? Because its corresponding angle
are congruent.

Converse of the Alternate Interior/ Exterior Angle Theorem:

If two coplanar lines cut by a transversal and the alternate interior/ exterior
angles are congruent then the lines are parallel.
l

2 3
m If ∠1 ≅ ∠4, then m∥n
4 n If ∠2 ≅ ∠3, then m∥n

Converse of the Same-side Interior/Exterior angle Theorem:

If two coplanar lines cut by a transversal so that the pair of same-side
interior/exterior angles are supplementary then the lines are parallel.

If ∠1 + ∠4 = 180, then k∥p

1 4 If ∠2 + ∠3 = 180, then k∥p

 What converse postulate or Converse of the Alternate

theorem is this, if ∠1 ≅ ∠8 then Exterior Angle Theorem
r∥s?
 Is it possible that r∥s if ∠2 ≅ ∠8? No, because they are same-side
angles and same-side angles are
supplementary.
 State the converse of the If ∠2 ≅ ∠8, then r∥s
corresponding angle postulate
using ∠1 and ∠5

IV. Application
Identify the converse postulate and theorem using the given figure and statement
below.
STATEMENT CONVERSE POSTULATE/ THEOREM
1.If ∠2 ≅ ∠8 then ylle
1 2 5 6
3 4 2.If ∠3+∠8= 180then
7 8 6 ylle
3.If ∠2 ≅ ∠8 then ylle
4.If ∠3 ≅ ∠6 then ylle
5.If ∠8 ≅ ∠4 then ylle
