Being strong

Nelson Rodríguez is my uncle, he's a 52 year-old doctor who currently lives in Bucaramanga,
he has always been motivated towards helping people, especially the ones who need it the
most, now he’s got some good money and can do it more often, but it hasn't always been like
that. My uncle is the oldest of 5 siblings, during his childhood his family was still very poor, he
was the son of a policeman and a housewife who barely got enough money to buy food and
pay a rent. After finishing high school, Nelson, had to start working full time in order to help
with the house expenses, he did it for two years, after that he realised he wanted to go further,
so he applied to the University of Valle, he always wanted to be a doctor and nothing would
stop him. It was hard in the beginning “I could only sleep 4 hours at night” he says with a big
smile of satisfaction for the well done. He had to work as an accounting assistant, study for
college and be the oldest brother, but definitely he faced his biggest challenge when his first
son Gabriel was born, he was a 3rd year medicine student with a whole family to look after.
Hopefully, he never gave up, he kept on doing his best and could finally graduate . Three years
later, he could travel to Canada and do his speciality in dermatology over there. Currently he
happily lives with his 3 children, Gabriel, Sarah and Carlos, and his wife Claudia who is an
accountant. As a I said in the beginning he’s always motivated to help others; ever since he
came back from canada he’s been part of a foundation that helps poor children get surgeries
and treatments they can't afford, due to this and so many other things my uncle is a person I’ll
always admire to.
