ABSTRACT
Background : Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is one of a non infectious disease which increases from
year by year. One complication that occurs in DM is Diabetic Foot Ulcer (DFU). DFU patients
not only cause just physical effects but also have an psychological impact. One of them is
stress, if the patient experiences stress it can cause one of them is high blood sugar levels
which can affect the wound healing process. To get over this problem we using coping , which
in this study looks at how Spiritual Coping with DFU patients. Research Objective : To
determine the overview of Spiritual Coping in Patients with Diabetic Foot Ulcer at the Wound
Care Clinic in Makassar City. Method : This study used quantitative research with descriptive
research method. The number of samples obtained is 52 respondents with consecutive
sampling technique. The instrument used in this study was the BRIEF RCOPE questionnaire.
Results : The results show that female respondents are more than men respondent with
average age of 58 years and duration of DM are 10 years while the longest duration of DFU is >
1 year and the most common cause is swelling. And obtained a relationship between Positive
Spiritual Copings based on the characteristics of respondents namely,age, marriage status and
Duration of DM. Whereas for the using of of Positive Spiritual Copings as much as 48
respondents and the remaining 2 use Negative Spiritual Copings. Conclusion and Suggestion
: it is concluded that almost all respondents used positive spiritual coping and half of the
respondents were female with an average age of 58 years. There is also a relationship of
spiritual coping with age, marital status and duration of DM. Recommended is that wound
nurses not only provide care but also pay attention to stress experienced by patients and
provide support and provide knowledge about the illness experienced to minimize further
complications.
